For Thiago Motta’s Juventus, there are now 5 goalless draws this season. The attack lacks bite and reinforcements are urgently needed in January.

The Juventus managed by Thiago Motta has earned an unenviable title: that of the “queen of 0-0 draws”. Wednesday night’s goalless draw against Aston Villa is the fifth of the season, following those against Roma, Empoli, Napoli, and Milan. To these we can add the 0-1 defeat against Stuttgart, bringing the total to 6 matches in which the Bianconeri have failed to find the back of the net out of 18 played. A worrying statistic, especially when compared to the same period last season, when under Massimiliano Allegri’s management, Juventus failed to score only once, in the 0-0 draw against Atalanta in Bergamo.

Juventus, 0-0 is not just “bad luck”

The offensive sterility of the Bianconeri, rather than being a result of bad luck, seems to be the product of unconvincing performances. When the team doesn’t score, it’s not just a lack of goals because they don’t create danger, don’t shoot consistently, and never give the impression of being able to turn the game around with a moment of brilliance. The absence of fluent attacking play is evident, and is exacerbated by the heavy absences of Dusan Vlahovic, who is close to returning, and Arkadiusz Milik, who will only be available at the end of December or beginning of January.

With the reopening of the transfer market in sight, sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli is considering various options to solve the offensive problems. Although the priority remains strengthening the defense, interventions for the attack are not ruled out. Among the names on the list are Giacomo Raspadori and Joshua Zirkzee.

The Sunday evening trip to Lecce could be a litmus test to assess the progress of a team that, at least defensively, continues to be solid despite the absence of Bremer. But to truly aim high, the Old Lady needs to rediscover that threat in front of goal that seems lost. Thiago Motta still has time to turn things around, but patience is not infinite, and January could prove crucial in giving new life to an attacking department struggling to take off.

Empoli continues to produce talents: from Ismaël Bennacer to Krisjan Asllani, the Tuscan club confirms itself as one of the best “midfielder schools” in Serie A.

In recent years, Empoli has stood out for its ability to enhance midfielders, turning them into absolute protagonists in Serie A and valuable assets on the market. Among the most representative names are Ismaël Bennacer, who came from Arsenal U23 team for around 1 million euros, and Hamed Junior Traorè, who grew up in the Tuscan youth sector.

The last season was no exception, despite the Tuscan club’s relegation. Antonio Buscè’s work on the Primavera team’s bench contributed to giving new life to the ‘midfielder school’ signed by Empoli, culminating in the victory of the youth league title and the growth of midfielders like Asllani, Ricci, Baldanzi, and Fazzini.

Programming at the core of the Empoli project

With the return to Serie A in the 2021/22 season, it was Samuele Ricci who stood out, attracting the interest of Torino.
