The Italian and Di Francesco’s call-ups

In a struggling Napoli to score, the solution could be Giacomo Raspadori. Conte is working on a tactical change to include the 2000 class player.
Despite being in first place, Napoli has shown difficulties in scoring in recent matches.
The lower offensive impact can be attributed to several factors, including the lower center of gravity adopted by Antonio Conte’s team compared to previous years and the change in formation.
In the early part of the season, the 3-4-2-1 had allowed Kvaratskhelia to play closer to Lukaku, limiting his defensive duties and making him more effective in front of goal. However, that tactical configuration made Napoli vulnerable to counterattacks.
The switch to a 4-3-3 (or rather, a disguised 4-4-2) was almost a forced choice with the arrival of McTominay, who brought more balance to the midfield.
In this system, however, Giacomo Raspadori struggled to find space, slipping back in the hierarchy, first behind the Belgian striker and then also behind Simeone.
Conte, who does not consider him a traditional center forward, is studying a tactical change to allow the Italian talent to express his full potential.

Napoli, Will Conte go back to 4-2-4 with Raspadori?
After the victory against Roma, Conte confirmed that he is working on an alternative role for Raspadori, trying him in the position currently occupied by McTominay, but with a completely different approach.
The idea would be to bring Napoli back to a 4-2-4, a formation that the Salento coach successfully used in the early years of his career, both at Bari and in the first months at Juventus.
In this setup, Raspadori would offer more quality in the final third, creating combinations with Lukaku, offering new solutions in the box, and pulling away defenders with his movements.
However, McTominay’s importance in the current setup makes it difficult to imagine an immediate change in formation.
The experimentation could be gradual, but the idea of a reinvented Raspadori remains an important card in Conte’s deck.

This move marks a significant step in the young player’s career, as he will be tied to Como until 2028. Empoli continues to produce talents: from Ismaël Bennacer to Krisjan Asllani, the Tuscan club confirms itself as one of the best “midfielder schools” in Serie A.
In recent years, Empoli has stood out for its ability to enhance midfielders, turning them into absolute protagonists in Serie A and valuable assets on the market. Among the most representative names are Ismaël Bennacer, who came from Arsenal U23 team for around 1 million euros, and Hamed Junior Traorè, who grew up in the Tuscan youth sector.
The last season was no exception, despite the Tuscan club’s relegation. Antonio Buscè’s work on the Primavera team’s bench contributed to giving new life to the ‘midfielder school’ signed by Empoli, culminating in the victory of the youth league title and the growth of midfielders like Asllani, Ricci, Baldanzi, and Fazzini.

With the return to Serie A in the 2021/22 season, it was Samuele Ricci who stood out, attracting the interest of Torino. Despite Ricci’s departure, the Tuscan club was not caught unprepared: they focused on Krisjan Asllani, a midfielder born in 2002 who scored his first Serie A goal against Inter, the team that became his new home a few weeks later.
From Baldanzi to Fazzini
Another talent from Empoli’s youth sector is Tommaso Baldanzi, who after scoring 24 goals in 55 appearances with the Primavera, established himself as a key player in the first team. His successor, Jacopo Fazzini, stood out despite Empoli’s relegation to Serie B, attracting the interest of Fiorentina.
Who will be the next talent launched by Empoli’s ‘midfielder school’? Only time will tell.
