Sampdoria’s coach, in a press conference, presented the match against Cremonese. Read Semplici’s words with us.
Semplici, in the pre-match conference, talked about the strengths of Cremonese and the goals of his team. The coach admitted to facing some difficulties and needing some additions in the winter transfer market.
Semplici’s words
Approaching the Cremona match.
“With the conviction to play a valuable match because we are facing a strong team. A team set to be among the top in the standings, and it is. Cremonese has a very respectable squad, they also had a change of coach, but I believe it is really a match where we need to send another signal for what will be our journey. It is clear that there will be situations to evaluate, but we are convinced that we can go to Cremona despite the absences and we have the opportunity to showcase our value, and I want the team to have an identity different from what has been seen up to now”.
About Pedrola.
“I used Wednesday’s match, and I’m sorry, to understand more about the players I had seen less. And that’s why I made changes. Pedrola is behind in condition, and in my mind, I was thinking of playing him for 60-70 minutes, unfortunately, he also took a knock, and I substituted him at the end of the first half. I believe that at this moment, I see Pedrola as a right winger, we will see what his condition will be”.
The back four.
“We go back to what we did against Spezia. I wanted to see if playing with 4-3-3 was the right choice. Now I believe it is right to go back to the 3-5-2 formation we used against Spezia. Already after 3-0, we changed the way we were on the field, and the team did not fall apart despite the result. And I think this is the most ‘positive’ aspect of the defeat in Rome. The evaluation, both physical and technical and tactical, is that the guys are doing well”.
How to help Tutino and Coda?
“At the presentation, I said to bring the team 20 meters forward. We have players who, if they play closer to the goal, can replicate the numbers they achieved in the past. I want the team to have a different inclination and possession and create more chances through crosses, through balls, and a certain type of work that we are doing even with few training sessions”.
Sampdoria’s standpoint
Defensive difficulties.
“I used Melle in defense, Venuti is an adaptation. The only starting defender is Riccio. We need to withstand these matches until December, and then we will see with the club for possible reinforcements. It is clear that we are short in numbers, and for the goal we have, to climb up, it is right to expect some player arrivals in January”.
Cremonese’s strengths.
“They start from a solid base and play good football. Then in Serie B, you can win against anyone and lose against anyone. And when Sampdoria takes the field, everyone gives their all. I found a group that is willing but struggling. My work has been more from a mental point of view to give these guys confidence and serenity”.
About Vieira.
“The match in Rome served to see him, to give him playing time, and to understand his condition. It’s an important recovery. The more players I have available, the more difficult my choices will be, but I think it’s better to field a team that has the right balance, the right strength, and that can get results against everyone”.
The standings.
“We’ll be out of the newspaper soon. Our intention is to climb up. It’s my goal and the club’s goal. We have the desire to take a different path. I’ve only been here for a short time, but I don’t have a magic wand. If I’m here, it’s because there were issues, but I believe in these guys and this group. It’s up to me to try to help them and, by identifying the problems, to change this trend”.
Big teams’ difficulties.
“Regarding the relegated teams, there are always psychological issues. If you don’t have the right mindset, even unconsciously, you have problems. Not all teams are like that, look at Sassuolo, it has an outstanding roster. Serie B is tough, it’s the best there is in Italy and beyond. You can win and lose against anyone. We need to find a consistency of results that can allow us to have a different second half of the season than what we’ve had so far. I’m trying to lay the foundation, to find a balance so that the team can offer something more than in the match against Spezia. We need to find the right balance”.
About Yepes and Ricci.
“I have two similar players who can give me alternatives in that role. I am covered and calm to assess them Sunday after Sunday who has the physical and mental condition to give me a certain type of approach”.

Comeback and late equalizer against Pisa

Serie B continues to surprise in Sunday’s matches, with the standings changing once again, as Palermo finally returns to the playoff zone.
This year’s Serie B championship is probably one of the most exciting ever. Just looking at the standings, it’s clear that surprises are always on the agenda, and even a couple of consecutive positive results can catapult a team from the depths of the relegation zone to the playoff dream.
In today’s 3 PM matches, the most entertaining game was certainly between Spezia and Palermo. Dionisi’s men were on the brink of a victory away to the Ligurians, but they managed to salvage a point with a spectacular comeback in injury time thanks to goals from striker Esposito and former Palermo player Aurelio.
This reduces the gap for Cremonese from the Bianconeri, who return to winning ways against Sudtirol and erase, at least for the moment, the direct promotion dream for Luca D’Angelo’s team.
In the last match, Cesena also regains three points, winning away at Reggiana and reaching 33 points, thus climbing to eighth place in the standings, the last position useful for the playoffs.
Serie B, 3 PM Results
Reggiana-Cesena 0-1 (D. Saric 57′)
Cremonese-Sudtirol 3-1 (J. Vandeputte (C) 28′; S. Davi (S) 59′; M. De Luca (C) 76′, 90+2′)
Spezia-Palermo 2-2 (F. Ranocchia (P) 1′; M. Brunori (P) 72′; F. Esposito (S) 90+2′; G. Aurelio (S) 90+5′)
Current Standings
Waiting for Juve Stabia-Bari, the final match of the 25th round, the current standings are as follows:
Sassuolo 58; Pisa 53; Spezia 49; Cremonese 40; Catanzaro 36; Bari*, Juve Stabia*, Cesena 33; Palermo 31, Modena, Cittadella 30; Brescia 29; Reggiana, Sampdoria, Mantova 28; Carrarese 27; Salernitana, Sudtirol 25; Frosinone 22; Cosenza 21.

Serie B, 25th round: today the last three matches of the day in Serie B. The Spezia-Palermo stands out, while the Emiliano-Romagnolo derby will take place at the Mapei Stadium.
This afternoon completes the 25th round of Serie B, which has seen seven out of ten matches played between yesterday and Friday.
At the Picco in Spezia, the Aquilotti try to take advantage of Pisa‘s defeat, but they will face a Palermo team looking for consistency in the playoff race. For Luca D’Angelo’s men, winning would mean closing the gap to -2 from Inzaghi’s men.
A playoff-flavored derby, instead, at the Mapei Stadium, where Reggiana and Cesena will face off for three points that could lead to reaching the playoff zone.
Home game for Cremonese, who is closely following Spezia’s result, but meanwhile, they must beat Sudtirol to keep Catanzaro at bay, who remained unbeaten yesterday against Frosinone.
The day is completed by the match between Juve Stabia and Bari.
