Empoli returns home empty-handed from the away match against Inter-Empoli tonight. Coach D’Aversa’s post-match analysis.

A difficult game, starting with the illusion of being able to resist effectively and, why not, score against the home team.

Then, the disillusionment from the 55th minute onwards, with the “awakening” of Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez and, following him, Denzel Dumfries and Marcus Thuram.

From the Inter-Empoli match, the Tuscan team returns home with a bitter taste. This is the analysis of coach Roberto D’Aversa in the post-match.

Inter-Empoli, Roberto D’Aversa’s words

You held on well until a certain point, what was missing?
“I think in terms of attitude, I cannot reproach these guys at all, the match was unlocked by a great play by Lautaro. It was balanced, but until then they created little, and they were good at making us work deeper than we had prepared.

Then when you concede a goal, you raise the center of gravity and the regret increases for the management of the third goal, born from a free kick in our favor. This is the attitude I wanted, it is not easy to come to San Siro to play against great champions. What I could have done was to take Lautaro out at 60′, but obviously it was not possible (laughs, editor’s note)”.

Why was Esposito not in the starting lineup?
“He is doing things never seen before in his career, both him and Saba did not do all the training sessions with the team during the week. Sebastiano is playing with more continuity than in the past, in the past I haven’t always been able to manage him and I cannot afford to lose a player like him to injury.

We played tonight, but then we also play on Saturday: up front we are few and I have to dose the energy a bit. Having said that, he needs to improve in some aspects that he knows: if he is not at Inter but at Empoli, it also depends on him. He is doing important things, also thanks to his teammates who put him in a position to exploit his characteristics”.

One point in six games, what makes you think positively about the future?
“I would say that we still have twenty points: at the beginning of the season no one could have imagined it at this point, we have to think about the fact that results are lacking despite the performances. In many games we have lamented the result, both with Genoa and with Lecce.

Despite the twenty terrible minutes, even against Lecce we had a chance to reopen the game. The incidents did not reward us, we have to work so that they help us to bring home the results by valuing the performance”.

Where have you improved?
“Looking at the subsequent matches against Milan, we caught them at their worst moment and we went on the field intimidated. We showed courage, both against Napoli and Atalanta. Tonight the boys tried, then the fact of lowering ourselves was not a tactical choice, but linked to the opponents’ skill.

I have to say that I cannot reproach these guys at all. We have to think that before the third goal we still managed to reopen the game with Inter and it’s not easy: they have champions and substitutions that in some cases improve those who are already on the field.

This attitude would probably have led us to achieve results in the last few games, we have to bring it back on the field in the upcoming matches and return to getting results. It’s the only remedy that makes everything pass”.

Will Franco Israel be guarding the goal in Torino-Genoa?

Doubt in Torino. Franco Israel’s conditions could make him miss the match against Genoa. The match will take place at 12:30.

The goalkeeper of Torino is in serious doubt for the match against Genoa; the trauma to his right rib, suffered in the match against Napoli, does not seem to have fully healed.

During the match against Napoli, the goalkeeper received a nasty blow which was then evaluated by the medical staff of the granata. The result: the goalkeeper was unable to complete his normal weekly preparation and, for this reason, does not seem to be included in the lineup of twelve against the Grifoni.

Today, however, we await the official medical report on the condition of the twenty-five-year-old Uruguayan.

This absence itself would suggest, regardless of the verdict, that the goalkeeper will be absent on the field tomorrow, Sunday, October 26, but what is most breath-taking is the medical report.

Genoa, the team that is bottom of the Serie A standings, could take advantage of this forced stop to try and secure three much-needed points. At this point in the season, in fact, the Ligurians must try to drastically change their fate, otherwise a future relegation seems more than likely.

The team of Marco Baroni must instead keep their eyes on the horizon and not lose concentration in order to continue to stay in the middle of the table and then, who knows, even try to climb up the ranks.

MILAN-PISA 2-2

“We expected this match, they came to defend and make our lives difficult. It’s our fault if we didn’t win: we didn’t do enough to win the game. We lost two important points today. These home games, with all due respect to Pisa, you have to win them.”

TIGHT MARKING?

“It’s fair, I have to adapt. We need to play better overall: we did some good things, created many chances but didn’t score. But I have to adapt for the rest.”

APPROACH

“We should have killed the game in the first half. We played well, but only scored one goal. We started the second half sluggishly, then there was the unfortunate penalty and goal. But that’s football, that’s why it’s beautiful: even if you’re stronger and deserve to win, anything can happen. We are sad and angry for losing two valuable points.”

AC Milan waste a great opportunity to consolidate their lead: from 1-0 to 1-2, they need the final minutes to avoid a sensational defeat. The risk of losing the top spot for Milan is now concrete.

It was supposed to be a quiet evening for the Rossoneri, an opportunity to strengthen their first place in the standings and face the midweek round with serenity. Instead, against a brave Pisa, the Rossoneri complicate their lives and have to thank Athekame, the author of the 2-2 in injury time, for avoiding an embarrassing loss.

AC Milan-Pisa 2-2: match analysis

The match started off on the right foot thanks to Leao’s goal after just seven minutes. But Allegri’s team, instead of closing the game, relaxed, showing presumption and lacking ruthlessness in front of goal. In the first half, Milan controlled but did not score, and Pisa stayed in the game.

In the second half, Gilardino played his trump card: Cuadrado’s entry changed everything. The Colombian won and scored the penalty for 1-1, his eighth goal in career against the Rossoneri, then inspired the counterattack that led Nzola to the sensational 2-1. Milan, confused and lacking clarity, tried to react, with Leao hitting the crossbar, Nkunku wasting a possible lead.

Only in injury time did the equalizer come, signed by Athekame, avoiding a heavy defeat but not erasing the bitterness. Perhaps the Rossoneri paid for their lack of respect for the opponent, just as Allegri had warned before the start of the match.

A necessary reality check, because on Tuesday in Bergamo Milan risks not showing up as the league leaders.
