Sixteenth appointment with “Macché te lo guardi?”, the weekly column by Calciostyle dedicated to the 2024/2025 Serie A women’s championship.
The women’s football movement in Italy in recent years has been gaining more and more space, attracting the interest of millions of fans who live the sport in our beloved Boot. Although there is still a vast majority of people who “snub” this category, in recent seasons there have been several events and facts that have brought women’s football to a very high level.
We cannot fail to mention the transition to professionalism (July 1, 2022), achieving milestones that until a few years ago were unthinkable, such as reaching the 40,000 spectator mark for a single match.
Compared to other European countries (Spain and England above all), the difference in terms of audience and interest in women’s football is, as a famous Roman saying goes, “still a dear friend,” meaning very vast.
Also taking advantage of the irreverence of the title of the column “Macché, te lo guardi?”, we want to shed further light on a reality that is gaining more and more ground in our beloved country: women’s football. Because in the end, we Italians are only interested in seeing and being able to comment on the game of football, regardless of who is playing.
Women’s Serie A, recap of the sixteenth round
The sixteenth round of Women’s Serie A offers many emotions. To kick off the action, there was the Friday showdown between Juventus and Inter, first and second in the standings: the Old Lady clinches the three points and puts a strong claim on the title. Fiorentina continues to struggle and falls to Lazio, who moves away from the relegation zone, as does Sassuolo, who wins 0-3 against Como.
Roma, after losing two weeks ago against Inter, also falls to the other Milanese team: an incredible comeback by Milan complicates the Giallorosse’s title hopes. The survival challenge is won by Sampdoria in a match with few emotions.
The Derby of Italy goes to the Bianconeri: Juventus soars
Juventus – Inter 2 – 0
27′ Cantore (J), 30′ Girelli (J)
The setback for Juventus lasts very little, as in the last round they suffered their first defeat of the season, but in the big match against Inter, second in the standings, they close the Nerazzurri’s case in just three minutes, half an hour into the game.
The Old Lady triumphs in a match crucial for the standings, with Inter now trailing by -7 points. Barely two minutes into the game, it was clear that the two teams on the field were ready to make an impact, coming close to breaking the deadlock in Biella. First Polli, then Krumbiegel missed two great chances from close range.
Sofia Cantore opens the scoring, celebrating her recently renewed contract. Girelli is sent through, with a clever backheel pass to set up the ’99 class player who enters the box and unleashes a powerful right-footed shot that Runarsdottir can’t stop.
Three minutes later, Juventus doubles the lead with the league’s top scorer Girelli, putting the match against Inter on track. Bonansea sprints down the left, reaches the byline, and crosses to the #9 striker. Runarsdottir miraculously saves the initial header from the Bianconeri, but she reacts quickly to break the Nerazzurri’s resistance within three minutes.
In the second half, Inter coached by Piovani, takes the field and tries to close the gap. The imprecision in front of goal by the Nerazzurri players, especially Polli, and the extraordinary saves by Peyraud-Magnin deny them any chances of a comeback.
A crucial victory for Juventus, who nearly secures the title race with just two rounds left in the regular season.
Chmielinski’s brace earns Sassuolo three important points
Como – Sassuolo 0 – 3
57′ Sabatino (C), 83′ Chmielinski (S), 88′ Chmielinski (S)
The fifth positive result in the last six matches for Sassuolo, who overpower a struggling Como side. After a first half with few goal-scoring opportunities, the game takes a turn in the 54th minute. A decisive sliding door moment for the Neroverdi with the direct red card for Gilardi: the Larian goalkeeper receives the ball well outside her area, loses control, and gifts the ball to Clelland, who scores into an empty net.
Just three minutes later, the Neroverdi take the lead with Sabatino‘s goal. A cross from the right by Brustia finds the Neroverde striker, marginally offside, who slots home from close range to open the scoring.
Despite being a player down, Como doesn’t back down and tries to equalize, especially through Del Estal, who comes close to scoring on a couple of occasions. Besides that, Como fails to pose a threat to the Sassuolo defense, rarely troubling Durand.
The game is sealed in the 83rd minute with Chmielinski‘s perfect free-kick. A successful set-piece play with Mella laying it off for the German forward, who unleashes a rocket that leaves Soggiu with no chance. Five minutes later, the Neroverde #10 completes her brace with a brilliant solo effort.
A turn to avoid Bou‘s challenge, a precise low shot on the far post beats the Larian goalkeeper convincingly. A crucial victory for Sassuolo, who decisively move away from the relegation zone, while Como must now start looking over their shoulders in the context of the title pursuit.
Lazio’s upset: Fiorentina’s dark days continue
Lazio – Fiorentina 2 – 0
58′ Visentin (L), 78′ Piemonte (L)
Fiorentina’s dark days seem to be never-ending. In the last 10 matches, the Viola have only managed two wins against Arezzo in the Coppa Italia and Sampdoria. Only Napoli and Sampdoria themselves have collected fewer points in the same period in the league than De La Fuente‘s side.
In the match at Fersini, only one team is on the field, that of Grassadonia. In the first half, Lazio dominates possession, but despite a good performance, the game is tied at halftime. Fiorentina, for a while now, does not seem to be the same team that qualified for the Women’s Champions League last season.
At the 58th minute, the Viola defense crumbles. A perfectly executed set-piece play (a close-range corner) sees Le Bihan taking a shot, with Visentin volleying in the rebound past Fiskerstrand. Lazio gains confidence and at the 64th minute has the chance to double their lead from the penalty spot.
Once again, Visentin is the protagonist. The #99 forward is brought down by the Viola goalkeeper in the box, and the referee points to the spot without hesitation. Piemonte steps up but her attempt is saved by Fiskerstrand.
De La Fuente’s side only starts to show offensive intent after the 70th minute, never coming close to troubling the Biancocelesti defense. Lazio smells danger and at the 78th minute, Piemonte seals the win, redeeming herself after missing from the penalty spot.
Goldoni plays the ball into the center of the box for Piemonte, who turns and unleashes a powerful low shot into the corner, securing Grassadonia‘s team their third win in the last four matches. Positive steps forward for the Biancocelesti, who move away from the relegation zone ahead of the survival playoffs. The last time Lazio recorded two consecutive wins with a clean sheet was between May and October in 2011.
Fiorentina, in a deep crisis, will face Inter next week.
Milan completes the comeback: end of the title race for Roma?
Milan – Roma 3 – 2
32′ Greggi (R), 36′ Arrigoni (M), 38′ Corelli (R), 47′ Koivisto (M), 55′ Cernoia (M)
An open game at the Vismara Center between Roma and Milan, with the Rossonere securing three crucial points to tie with Como in the standings, the last qualifying spot for the title playoffs.
The first half an hour of the game is fairly balanced, with both teams studying each other and then finding three goals in just 6 minutes. In the 32nd minute, the Giallorossi take the lead with Greggi. The young midfielder receives the ball from the right by Dragoni and unleashes a powerful shot that hits the top corner.
Before they can realize it, Milan levels the score. The ball finds its way into the box for Soffia, who sets up Arrigoni with a precise left-footed shot to the near post that beats the Giallorossi goalkeeper, Ceasar. Two minutes later, Roma retakes the lead with Corelli.
A well-worked move by Spugna‘s side, with Viens receiving the ball with her back to goal in the box and laying it off to the right for the winger, whose diagonal shot beats Giuliani.
In the second half, the Rossonere start strong and find the equalizer just two minutes into the half. A sprint down the right by Renzotti, who gets past Di Guglielmo, and a dangerous cross for StokicThogersen. The loose ball falls to Rossoneri full-back Koivisto, who makes no mistake from close range.
Roma struggles and eight minutes later, Milan completes the comeback. A lightning-fast counterattack by Bakker‘s team, with Stokic driving into the box and setting up Renzotti in the center. The #18’s shot is blocked and falls to Cernoia, who taps in with an open goal.
The Giallorossi launch an assault on Giuliani‘s goal but due to their usual inaccuracy in front of goal and a monstrous performance by the Rossoneri goalkeeper, they fail to find the equalizer, which would have been futile anyway.
In terms of the standings, Roma slips back to -10 points behind Juventus, wasting the magnificent performance from a week ago against the Old Lady. The chances for a title chase are diminishing, especially with only two direct clashes remaining.
On the other hand, the Rossonere celebrate their third consecutive positive result and reach the same points as Como, who occupy the final playoff spot.
Arcangeli decides the survival battle: Samp conquers the first victory
Napoli – Sampdoria 0 – 1
72′ Arcangeli (S)
A coaching change at Napoli this week couldn’t prevent the twelfth defeat of the season. To make matters worse, the opponent was the relegation battle rival. Indeed, the Neapolitan side lost the survival showdown against Sampdoria, slipping to the bottom of the table.
A deserved victory for the Blucerchiati, who did more than their opponents, who were never dangerous in attack. The two crossbars hit by Sampdoria were a prelude to the goal that decided the match.
Sandvej mishandles the ball in the box and fouls Baldi blatantly. From the penalty spot, Arcangeli steps up and beats the Napoli goalkeeper Bacic with a high right-footed shot to the left.
The first win of the season for Sampdoria sees them leapfrog Napoli at the bottom of the table. It’s not a good start for Sassarini on the Napoli bench.

The performances of the Italian National Team (reaching the semifinals) at the European Championship in Switzerland this summer certainly brought a lot of attention to the entire movement, but there is still a long way to go to give the right spotlight to the Italian championship. Disappointing home debut for Rossettini’s Roma. Defeated 0-4 against Barcelona’s aliens in a sold-out Tre Fontane. Second matchday and second defeat for Roma under Rossettini in the Women’s Champions League. After facing Real Madrid a week ago, Roma welcomed the aliens from Barcelona. “Aliens” because they are not only one of the strongest, if not the strongest, teams in the world, but also had a superb start to the season. Since the beginning of the 2025/2026 season, Barcelona has played 8 matches, winning all of them, scoring 44 goals and conceding only two. A true powerhouse, which also crushed the Giallorossa team in a completely sold-out Tre Fontane. ![]() ROMA FEMMINILE FORMATION (PHOTO BY SALVATORE FORNELLI)
Despite a significant technical gap, Rossettini‘s girls managed to keep up with the Spanish team in the first half, ending the first half only one goal down, scored less than two minutes into the match. Roma played a defensive game, trying to limit Barcelona‘s constant passing game and exploiting their high defensive line for counterattacks. The opportunity for an equalizer came to Viens, who faced the opposing goalkeeper one-on-one but was unable to score. In the second half, due to collective fatigue, Barcelona scored three more goals past Baldi‘s goal. The Spanish team also missed a penalty with former Ballon d’Or winner Putellas, who shot high. Despite the differences on the field, there are positive aspects for coach Rossettini to take into account for the upcoming matches in the league and Champions League, where the opponents will be, at least on paper, more manageable and within reach. Roma – Barcelona 0 – 4 (2′ Brugts, 58′ Nazareth, 71′ pen. Putellas, 90′ Hansen)
