Roma’s coach, Claudio Ranieri, spoke at the press conference before the Giallorossi’s departure for Venice.

The Roma, eliminated from the Coppa Italia after a 3-1 defeat against Milan, is preparing for the next challenge. On Sunday, February 9, the Giallorossi will face Venezia in the lunchtime match of the twenty-fourth round.

Venice-Rome, Claudio Ranieri’s words

After earning four points in the last two league matches, with a victory against Udinese and a home draw against the league leaders Napoli, Claudio Ranieri’s team is determined for the challenge. Ranieri discussed the upcoming match and the team’s situation in a press conference.

Below are Ranieri’s words.

Background on Walker-Kolo Muani
“What I said about the Friedkins is true. They spent a lot of money and some may say: ‘They spent it poorly,’ it’s true, but they spent it. I don’t want to defend anyone. But they put in 1 billion and more. And they will spend more to build the stadium. Now we know we have to respect the FPF. They have a ceiling that they cannot exceed and it affects this year and the next. We need to increase revenues and decrease expenses. How do we do this? Try to progress in Europe so more money comes in. There are many things that need to be evaluated and can bring in money. Many names that can help us bring in money. We can’t go beyond that. We need to evaluate well and try to make do with what we have. We try to work with what we have. That’s why I say I’m super happy. They couldn’t have done more. It’s very simple. I’m disappointed too. I said the English have a wonderful saying for us Romans. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Give the ownership time to do what they have in mind. Will they succeed? I sincerely hope so. We wanted Kolo Muani. Both I and the president. But we couldn’t. It’s easy to talk. We criticize fairly but we know how to say things.”

Winter Transfer Market
“They didn’t tell me to revolutionize. Whoever leaked this information to you is not our friend. They have never told us to change this or that.”

Wage Bill
“If possible, yes. If we want to spend 100 million for the Friedkins, we have to lower the wage bill. We can buy a player for 100 million but we can’t give him any extras. Buying is outside the FPF but there is the wage bill that weighs on us. On everyone, even the Roma employees.”

New Signings
“We have difficulties finding players in Italy. Playing every 3 days, even to train them, is not easy. I try to get them into the Italian system. We are in a good place and now we see how we can integrate all the others.”

Who did the market
“Hahaha… I’ll play a trick on you. Oh if I do. We’ve put together a fantastic scouting group. We cover the whole world. I say what I think the future holds based on the players and these gentlemen bring me 4-5 feasible players. Walker? We could have signed him too, but we didn’t have the money. But we couldn’t sign another non-EU player. I give the green light to those who meet my requirements. I’m the one who chooses for him.”

Fans
“When they sing Roma, Roma, Roma, you can hear it, it gives me chills…”

Forbidden Trip
“I read that it’s not for us but for a crossing. Everyone does their job and does it to the best of their ability. I don’t want to enter fields I don’t know. I would say nonsense and I don’t like it.”

Milan
“Mentally, it can’t be anything less. There was a lot of difficulty in finding forwards like Dybala. Something we did with Eintracht and Napoli. I agree with what Panucci said. We went to try to equalize the game. Today I congratulated the boys. They fought until the end. At 3-1, I didn’t see a team that gave up. Yes, there were some players below their usual performance, it happens. They are not machines. They always give 100%. Then it’s up to me to change, do, and say. Among the call-ups are neither Hummels nor Paredes. I gave them a holiday. With De Rossi and Juric, they played little. With me, they play a lot. But then they can’t handle it. Now you are more useful to recharge. Go with your families. So already know you won’t find them in the call-ups. Not because they played poorly, but because they need to recharge.”

Di Francesco
“He was unlucky but he is an excellent coach. His teams play well and he will try to save Venezia. I wish him that but after Sunday.”

Paredes
“Someone will be back in Venezia. Paredes’ contract? I think they are talking about it but I haven’t asked, I’m honest. This morning I had things to do and I didn’t ask. Just like I knew he would stay in January and not go to Boca.”

Abraham
“I think it was already an honorary contract between Roma and Milan. He was earning a significant salary, so maybe it will allow us to lower that quota that will allow us to operate.”

Normalizer
“Napoli last year. Napoli this year. It happens. In sports, there is a good year and a bad year. When Milan made changes, the starters came in. Let’s hold onto this Roma. Let’s love it not just in words, but in actions. I’m old. Otherwise young. When I went to the Curva, they used to say: ‘Roma is not to be discussed, it is to be loved.’ Now I’m not saying we’re at 50%, but we’ve gone from 70% discussing and 30% loving. And that’s not good. These guys are giving everything and I want them to give everything. Until the end. Now we go to Venezia and for you it’s easy. Look at the last 9 games of Venezia. They fought from start to finish and lost only by one goal. They are not an easy team. We’re going there to fight. With Napoli, we played 57 minutes, they played 10 minutes less in their last games. I already said that. I want to see Roma now. I want to see it now. I wasn’t worried about Napoli, Eintracht, and Milan. In sports, you can lose but there is a way to do it.”

Parma, something still isn’t right: Tardini the only certainty

Published

The Parma is preparing for the home match against Como scheduled for Saturday at 3 PM. After the draw at Marassi, doubts have emerged about referees and motivations.

The controversies following the expulsion of Ndiaye, which heavily influenced the match against Genoa, have almost justified the performance of Cuesta’s men. Despite the incident, the team’s reaction was not seen, and in the end, they almost suffered a defeat.

Parma, lacking continuity: the next opponent is Como

Six points in 7 games and several relegation clashes already closed, this is the start of the season for the Crociati team that came out unscathed at Marassi despite almost an hour with one man down. In the end, Suzuki’s saved penalty was a reflection of the decidedly below-par performance of Pellegrino and his teammates.

It is true that such a delicate away game requires a defensive attitude, especially with one man down, however, Ndiaye’s expulsion came in the 42nd minute (surrounded by heated debates on the severity of the foul that led to the first yellow for the yellow-blue defender) and until that moment, Parma had not shown a great performance. The home team had already taken control from the start, and the statistics after the first 45 minutes, including total shots (7), possession (56% vs 44%), and expected goals (0.39 vs 0.05), showed that the match was already an uphill battle.

It is known that Genoa at home is a beast and gives very little space to opponents, especially in a relegation clash, and a countermeasure in this sense had not yet been revealed. Cuesta then had to completely change the lineup in the second half with the exit of Almqvist, one of the main offensive threats, and the entry of Ordonez.

A team lacking energy

The second 45 minutes saw the Grifone attack with all their energies to find a goal that would have been worth its weight in gold. Instead, a great Suzuki prevented Ekhator and his teammates from taking home the 3 points. The defeat against Lecce seems to have suddenly extinguished the fire that was lit by the victory against Torino a few weeks ago.

The opportunity to redeem themselves is just around the corner, and against Como, it will be mandatory to take advantage of the Tardini factor, which was decisive in terms of points against Atalanta and the Granata. Pellegrino must find the joy of scoring, as well as Cutrone, but the rest of the team is also called upon to show their desire for victory. Bernabé continues to show great plays but still lacks effectiveness in the final third, as do Almqvist and Britscghi.

Cremona, undefeated against the other small teams: the Nicola effect

Published

Udinese, the Okoye case: the Public Prosecutor continues to investigate

Published

The betting case involving Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is still ongoing, as he has been called to trial for fraud by the Udine Prosecutor’s Office.

In the last Serie A match against Cremonese, Maduka Okoye returned to defend the goal for Udinese. After serving a two-month suspension for the betting case, the Nigerian goalkeeper returned to the field immediately reclaiming his starting position, which had been filled by Razvan Sava in his absence.

However, the ordeal related to the betting case in which he is involved does not seem to be entirely over. The Udine Prosecutor’s Office has not closed the case. Instead, they have issued a decree summoning him to stand trial for aggravated fraud, with the first hearing set for May 13, 2026.

Udinese, Okoye case: an update on the investigation

The investigation revolves around an abnormal flow of bets related to the match played between Lazio and Udinese on March 11, 2024, during which Okoye was booked for time-wasting in the 63rd minute.

In the realm of sports betting, the yellow card shown to the Udinese goalkeeper, which had odds of eight times the stake, generated total winnings of over €120,000, most of which were recorded in the province of Udine.

According to the Udine Prosecutor’s Office, Okoye had arranged the action with a Friulian entrepreneur, the owner of a pizzeria, in a meeting prior to the match against Lazio. Two other entrepreneurs are also implicated, who, upon learning of this insider information, also placed bets. The three of them earned a total of over €28,000.

The injured party is said to be the company Snaitech, which suffered an economic loss as a result of the abnormal betting activity. Now Okoye must prepare to face the trial while Udinese, whose club is not under investigation, waits for further developments.
