Eighteenth meeting with “Macché te lo guardi?”, the weekly column of Calciostyle dedicated to the 2024/2025 Serie A women’s championship.

The women’s football movement in Italy in recent years is gaining more and more space, attracting the interest of millions of fans who live sports in our beloved country. Despite there still being a vast majority of people who “snub” this category, in recent seasons there have been several events and facts that have brought women’s football to a very high level.

We cannot overlook the transition to professionalism (July 1, 2022), reaching milestones that until a few years ago were unthinkable, such as reaching the quota of 40 thousand spectators for a single match.

Compared to other European countries (Spain and England above all), the difference in terms of audience and interest surrounding women’s football is, to quote a famous Roman expression, “still dear friend,” meaning very broad.

Also, using the irreverence of the column title “Macché, te lo guardi?”, we want to shed further light on a reality that is increasingly taking hold in our beloved country: women’s football. In the end, what interests us Italians is just watching and being able to comment on the football played, regardless of who is playing.

Women’s Serie A, recap of the eighteenth round

The eighteenth and final round of the Women’s Serie A regular season offers a mountain of goals, with several exciting matches in terms of entertainment and goals. In fact, in three matches, 20 goals were scored! The opening spectacle was provided by Lazio and Inter in what was undoubtedly the most thrilling match of the day: 4-4 with Piemonte scoring a poker. Sassuolo secured three points against Sampdoria, relegating them to the bottom of the table.

A goalless draw between Fiorentina and Roma, while Juventus strolled at Milan‘s home, dealing a heavy blow to the Rossoneri. A crucial victory for Napoli in terms of survival in the match against Como, who suffered their fourth consecutive defeat. The Larian team had to give up the last slot for the championship pool to Milan, despite the heavy defeat suffered.

Incredible show at Fersini: sensational poker by Piemonte

Lazio – Inter 4 – 4

2′ Tomaselli (I), 8′ Csiszar (I), 66′ Magull (I), 69′ Merlo (I), 62′,65′, 84′, 90+3′ Piemonte

How to start the day with a better match than this? The match at Fersini in Formello between Lazio and Inter provided 90 minutes full of emotions and reversals of fortune for all passionate fans.

Right from the start, the Nerazzurri took the lead with an ex-Roma player Tomaselli. A pass from Cambiaghi for the midfielder’s run into the box, where she shifted and defeated Karresmaa with a right-footed shot deflected by D’Auria. No sooner had they scored that Inter doubled the lead with Csiszar. Schough receives on the left side of the box and centrally serves the Hungarian midfielder, who doesn’t hesitate to unleash a sharp low shot into the near corner where Karresma couldn’t reach.

The first half ended without any other major incidents as both teams closed the first 45 minutes with a score of 0-2 in favor of Piovani‘s side. An hour into the game, the Piemonte show began: the Biancocelesti striker brought the match back to level terms with two goals in 3 minutes.

At 62′, Benoit found the 97′ class player in the box, and with a colossal mistake by Milinkovic, she drilled a precise volley with her left foot from close range, beating Runarsdottir. Two minutes later, Piemonte scored her personal brace. A cross from the left by Zanoli to the Biancoceleste’s number 18, who turned in the air with a left-footed shot, putting the ball into the top corner, restoring parity.

The 7 minutes from the 62nd to the 69th minute were only for the brave-hearted: after Piemonte‘s brace, Inter surged ahead again by two goals. Indeed, no sooner had they celebrated the equalizer than Lazio conceded a long-range goal from Magull. The former Bayern Munich midfielder received at the edge of the box and unleashed a rocket into the near corner that Karresma couldn’t reach. Three more minutes, and Inter scored their fourth with Merlo. A masterful move by the Nerazzurri that led to a shot by Bugeja, a miracle save by the home goalkeeper, the ball slipped to the far post where the Biscione’s winger didn’t miss from close range.

A new double advantage for Inter just over 20 minutes from the end of the game. Disagreeing with this was once again the Lazio striker, Martina Piemonte. At 84′, she completed her hat-trick with a great turn in the box after a scramble in the Inter’s penalty area, reopening the match.

At the last minute, the 1997-born player also scored a poker: a replica of the goal she scored a few minutes earlier. Receiving back to goal for Piemonte who turned, this time to the right, and with a precise right-footed shot across the goal, she brought joy to the entire team coached by Grassadonia. A day that the former Milan and Roma striker, author of her first Serie A poker, will hardly forget.

This concludes the regular season for Inter and Lazio, with the Nerazzurri qualifying for the championship pool in second place, 7 points behind leaders Juventus. The Biancocelesti, on the other hand, finished in seventh place, which secures their place in the survival pool.

Sampdoria falls again: last place in the standings

Sampdoria – Sassuolo 0 – 2

26′ Sabatino (S), 73′ Clelland (S)

In the last round of the regular season, Sampdoria suffered another defeat, this time against Sassuolo, landing them in last place in the standings. At La Sciorba, the hosts started better with a shot by Arcangeli that forced Durand to make an extraordinary save and dive to turn it into a corner.

Despite a better start from the Doriane side, Sassuolo took the lead at the first opportunity with a header by Sabatino. Clelland entered the box and tried a shot, the Samp defense intercepted but handed the ball to the onrushing Philtjens who managed to cross for Sabatino to head in from close range. Despite Pisani‘s intervention, the ball was not deflected enough to prevent the goal.

Sampdoria did what they could, creating some danger for Durand‘s goal, but in the end, they had to succumb. Sassuolo gained momentum and began to create more noteworthy actions. In the 73rd minute, the Neroverdi sealed the deal with a thunderous strike by Clelland. Speeding down the left side, the number 25, as soon as she entered the box, unleashed a rocket that nestled into the far corner, leaving the Blucerchiato keeper motionless.

Both teams will play in the post-season survival pool, with Sassuolo surely playing more carefreely than Sampdoria, who slipped into last place after Napoli’s victory over Como.

Boring match at Viola Park: a draw that serves no one

Fiorentina – Roma 0 – 0

A lot of boredom and few joys in the match at Viola Park between Fiorentina coached by De La Fuente and Roma by Spugna. The two teams failed to capitalize on the slight misstep of Inter at Lazio and did not close the gap on the Nerazzurri, falling further behind the league leaders Juventus.

After a soporific first half with only one dangerous opportunity for each side, in the second half, Roma tried to secure the three points with a few glimpses, culminating in the crossbar hit by Haavi. Fiorentina attempted in the final stages with some offensive sorties, but after three minutes of stoppage time, the match ended in a draw.

A draw that serves neither of the two teams, both of which are qualified for the championship pool. The Giallorosse continue to lose ground on Juventus, further diminishing their already slim hopes of fighting for the league title.

Girelli show: Juventus only needs 6 minutes

Milan – Juventus 0 – 6

25′ Girelli (J), 27′ Boattin (J), 31′ Girelli (J), 39′ Girelli (J), 89′ Bergamaschi (J), 90+1′ Vangsgaard

Juventus overwhelmed Milan in the last round of the regular season. Everything was too easy for the Bianconere, who wrapped up the game against the Rossoneri in just five minutes. At 25′, a corner from the right by Boattin to Girelli‘s head, who soared and, thanks to a lucky deflection off the Diavolo‘s defense, beat Giuliani. Two minutes later, Juventus doubled their lead with Boattin.

A lightning counterattack from the Vecchia Signora saw Bonansea go one-on-one with the Rossoneri keeper and pass to Boattin on the left, who tapped in a goal into the unguarded net. Another 4 minutes and Girelli scored the third goal, again. Krumbiegel entered the box and was brought down by Stokic‘s late tackle: no doubt for the referee who pointed to the spot. Girelli stepped up from the penalty spot and perfectly placed a right-footed shot, completing her personal brace.

The Bianconeri striker was not satisfied yet, and at 39′, she completed her hat-trick. Krumbiegel broke into the box and crossed, the Rossoneri defense cleared poorly, leaving the ball in the air for Girelli to head over Giuliani and virtually seal the match.

In the second half, the story remained the same with Juventus dominating the match and extending the scoreline to 4-0 at 89′ with a goal from former Bergamaschi. Vangsgaard served Lehmann in the middle, who missed the simple right-footed tap-in, then tried with his left foot but found the Rossoneri defense’s block. On the rebound, the quickest was Bergamaschi, who didn’t miss from close range.

At 90+1′, there was also a celebration for former PSG player Vangsgaard, who scored, on a precise pass from Krumbiegel, with a splendid shot curling into the far corner.

Juventus confirms their first position, extending their lead in the standings over Inter and Roma, while Milan, despite the heavy defeat, secured the last spot to access the championship pool thanks to Como‘s defeat to Napoli.

Image

Napoli – Como 4 – 2

44′ Kramzar (C), 49′ Sliskovic (N), 52′ Banusic (N), 77′ Kramzar (C), 80′ Jelcic (N), 83′ Moretti (N)

Second league victory for Napoli that leaves the bottom of the table and prepares for a crucial survival pool to remain in the top flight.

A high-paced game between the home team Napoli and Como, with chances from both sides. To make better use of them, the Larian team took the lead at the 44th minute with a goal by Kramzar. A cross from the left by Petzelberger for the well-timed run of the 2006-born player, who punished the Parthenopean defense with a right-footed volley.

The second half started all blue. In the 49th minute, a long ball from the midfield by Lundorf into the box for Muth. A decisive exit by Gilardi who momentarily intercepted it, but the goal was left unguarded, allowing Sliskovic to score.

Three minutes later, it was time for

The twenty-first edition of “Macché te lo guardi?” (“Why don’t you watch it?”), the weekly column by Calciostyle dedicated to the 2024/2025 Serie A women’s championship.

Women’s Serie A, the third round of Scudetto and Relegation Poule

The third round of the Poule Scudetto and Poule Salvezza of the Women’s Serie A. In the relegation race, Sampdoria and Napoli do not go beyond a dull 0-0 that does not change the standings, leaving these two teams as the only ones really fighting to stay in the top flight. In the other match, Como beats Lazio 2-0, grabbing the top spot in the Poule Salvezza at the expense of the Biancocelesti.

In the Poule Scudetto, Fiorentina surprisingly beats Juventus with a double magic by Boquete. Despite the heavy defeat, Juventus officially qualifies, with 7 rounds in advance, for the next edition of the Women’s Champions League. Closing this round of the championship is the explosive Milan derby with Inter hurting themselves twice before being equalized by Ijeh 10 minutes from the end.

Relegation Poule

Boredom reigns: the relegation challenge goes beyond a draw

Sampdoria – Napoli 0 – 0

These are the two teams that are really fighting to stay in the Women’s Serie A. Sampdoria and Napoli, since the start of the season, are the two bottom teams in the standings and will have to fight tooth and nail to secure a pass to avoid dropping to the second division. They will have to because in the match between the two teams, played on Saturday the 15th, emotions are close to zero.

At La Sciorba, boredom reigns, with the two teams never managing to threaten the opposing defenses. A goalless draw that benefits Napoli more, who remain 2 points ahead of Sampdoria with five games to go. The upcoming matches with the other teams in the Poule Salvezza will also be decisive, waiting for the return match in Naples.

Image

Como overtakes Lazio: the Biancocelesti’s positive streak interrupted

Lazio – Como 0 – 2

42′ Picchi (C), 75′ Del Estal (C)

After six consecutive positive results, Lazio under Grassadonia, propelled to the top of the Poule Salvezza, is stopped by Como, a team that surpasses the Biancocelesti in the standings, taking the lead.

Two goals per half are enough for the team from Como to tame the Roman side. In the first real opportunity, Como takes the lead, thanks to the indecision of Cetinja. In the 42nd minute, a cross from Guagni into the box from the trequartista position, the ball reaches the goal with the Lazio goalkeeper trying to lift it over the crossbar, without success. The ball remains on the goal line with Picchi taking advantage with a simple tap-in.

Lazio feels the blow and, as in the first half, despite more ball possession, struggles to be dangerous in attacking phase. Fifteen minutes before the end, Como doubles the lead with Del Estal. A very long clearance by Ghilardi turns into an assist, with the Como forward escaping Eriksen and beating Cetinja.

Second consecutive victory for Como, climbing to 28 points in the standings, overtaking Lazio in the Poule Salvezza lead. Lazio’s positive streak of six consecutive results is interrupted.

Poule Scudetto

A double Boquete sinks Juventus

Juventus – Fiorentina 0 – 2

7′, 76′ Boquete (F)

Juventus falls at home to a lively Fiorentina and a spectacular Vero Boquete, author of a fantastic brace. Fiorentina opens the scoring in the 7th minute of the match: Janogy moves down the right flank in the box and closes the triangle with the Spanish veteran who shifts the ball to her left foot from inside the small area, delivering a powerful shot under the crossbar, beating an blameless Peyraud-Magnin.

The Old Lady is not at her best and struggles to create and build up, ending the first half behind. In the second half, the Bianconere seem to return with a different attitude and after just a few minutes come close to equalizing with Cantore. The ball slips in the penalty area with the number 9 making a direct shot. Fiskerstrand performs a miracle by closing the goal, maintaining Fiorentina’s lead.

With fifteen minutes to go, Boquete repeats with another magical strike. A very deflected free-kick by the veteran midfielder draws an impressive curve to the far post, beating the Juventus goalkeeper.

An important victory for Fiorentina, keeping Milan at bay. Second defeat in the league for Juventus, who nonetheless remain firmly at the top and very confident of winning the league.

Explosive derby: Unlucky Inter with a double own goal

Inter – Milan 3 – 3

14′ Milinkovic (I), 38′ Merlo (own goal), 45+4′ Cambiaghi (I), 65′ Milinkovic (own goal), 68′ Wullaert (I), 80′ Ijeh (M)

The third round of the Poule Scudetto ends with the Milan derby. Slightly different standings situations for the two teams: Inter competes for second place with Roma, while Milan, at the bottom of the poule, tries to catch up with Fiorentina.

The Nerazzurre start strong and after a couple of chances, score from a corner kick with Milinkovic. A corner from the left by Serturini, the Rossoneri defense fails to intervene, leaving the central defender free to strike at the center of the box.

Inter continues to dominate the game until the 30th minute when Bakker’s team, after half an hour of defending, starts to create some trouble for the Nerazzurri defense and at the 38th minute strikes back. Dompig plays a pivotal role with a series of feints that deceive Milikovic, creating the right space to cross for Ijeh. The striker is anticipated by Merlo, who inadvertently scores an own goal, bringing the match level.

At the end of the first half, Piovani’s team regains the lead with the flying play of Cambiaghi. A similar action to the one just a few seconds earlier with Serturini serving the 96 class from a corner to head it in, with Giuliani pulling off a save, sending it for a corner again.

This time, the Inter forward arrives in a flying stretch to head home Serturini’s cross, beating the passive Rossoneri defense.

The second half proceeds at a slower pace compared to the first half with Inter having two good chances before being equalized again by Milan, this time with an own goal. The Nerazzurre are very unlucky.

A scorching individual action by Renzotti on the right, surpassing Andres, puts a ball in from the right on the near post. Milinkovic, in an attempt to intercept Koivisto, puts the ball in her own net. However, the Rossoneri’s equalizer lasts very little. Barely 3 minutes later, Inter regains the lead with Wullaert.

A defensive mix-up by the Rossoneri backline with Giuliani and Vigilucci letting the ball pass in the box from Csiszar’s left. The quickest of them all is the former Wolfsburg player, who from close range doesn’t miss.

To close the goal-filled derby 10 minutes before the end is Ijeh, who brings the game back to a draw for the third and final time. On the development of a free-kick from the trequartista, the Nerazzurri defense is caught off guard with Sorelli heading the ball from close range. Runarsdottir intercepts but leaves the ball loose on the goal line for Ijeh’s winning touch.

Inter fails to capitalize on Juventus’ slip-up at home against Fiorentina but still manages to distance themselves from Roma, who have a game in hand. A bitter draw also for Milan under Bakker, who loses ground on Fiorentina.

Women’s Serie A, the second round of Scudetto and Relegation Pool

Second day of Scudetto and Relegation Pool for the Women’s Serie A. As for the relegation race, which opens and closes the 20th round of the championship, there are few surprises with Lazio clinching the sixth victory in seven matches by flattening Napoli, still in full relegation zone. The protagonist of the match was the Biancoceleste striker Piemonte, who scored 7 goals in the last 3 matches. In the Monday evening post-match, Como returns to victory after 4 consecutive defeats, inflicting a clear 3-0 defeat on Sassuolo.

In the Scudetto Pool, the two matches were decided in the last minutes of recovery. Roma catches up with Inter in the standings, finding the winning goal with Di Guglielmo in the final second against the Nerazzurri. After conceding a comeback from Juventus, Milan finds the equalizer in the 90th minute thanks to a fantastic backheel by Karczewska.

Relegation Pool

Lazio’s golden period: 6 wins in the last 7

Napoli – Lazio 0 – 4

29′ Connolly (L), 63′ Visentin (L), 81′ Piemonte (L), 90+7′ Kajan

Two wins in two for Lazio under Grassadonia in this Relegation Pool. Also against Napoli, just like a week ago against Sampdoria, the Biancocelesti dominated the field and secured three crucial points to consolidate the sixth position in the standings, a remarkable achievement considering the start of the season for Lazio.

The first half was balanced with the team of Grassadonia taking the lead after half an hour of play with a perfect set-piece play. A free-kick from the three-quarter line saw Eriksen passing to her left to Zanoli, whose cross found Connolly unmarked at the far post. The Biancoceleste defender volleyed the ball into the net past Beretta.

In the second half, Lazio extended their lead with captain Visentin. Shortly after Grassadonia‘s dismissal for protests, the Roman side hit on the counterattack. Number 99 sprinted onside on the through ball from Oliviero and beat the Napoli goalkeeper one-on-one. However, there were doubts about the starting position of the Biancoceleste captain.

The third goal came 9 minutes from the end with Piemonte, who scored her seventh goal in three matches. The former Milan and Roma striker received Oliviero‘s low cross in the middle and made no mistake from close range, sealing the match. At the end of regulation time, the Biancocelesti added a fourth goal through Kajan. Napoli was caught off guard on the counterattack as number 5 and Le Bihan combined to reach the penalty area. Le Bihan‘s final pass was intercepted, inadvertently setting up a powerful left-footed strike from Kajan.

Lazio recorded their sixth win in the last seven matches, consolidating their sixth place in the standings. On the other hand, Napoli will have to fight until the last moment with Sampdoria to remain in the top flight.

Como returns to victory: 4-match losing streak ended

Como – Sassuolo 3 – 0

21′ Karlernas (C), 43′ Kramzar (C), 76′ Del Estal (C)

Smiles return to Como after four consecutive defeats that saw the Larian team drop to the last position in the Scudetto Pool in favor of Milan.

It was all too easy for the hosts with Sassuolo never posing a threat in the offensive zone. The first real chance at 21′ saw Como open the scoring with Karlernas. A low cross from the offensive three-quarters by Guagni was poorly cleared by the neroverde defense, with Pleidrup inadvertently redirecting the ball to the unmarked number 16 who easily beat Durand from close range.

Sassuolo failed to respond to the setback and a few minutes before halftime, they conceded a second goal from former Roma player Kramzar. Kerr sneaked in behind Orsi and played the ball into the path of the 2006-born player, who coolly finished to beat the neroverde goalkeeper again.

In the second half, Sottili‘s girls managed the match, risking practically nothing and definitively closing the Sassuolo case 15 minutes before the end with Del Estal. A corner from the right by KramzarDurand could do nothing.

A significant victory for Como as they set their sights on the sixth place defended by Lazio. The gap with Sassuolo in the standings has widened, with the latter stuck at 22 points.

Di Guglielmo like Shomurodov: last-second victory

Roma – Inter 2 – 1

6′ Wullaert (I), 68′ Giugliano (R), 90+5′ Di Guglielmo (R)

The Roma women of Spugna take inspiration from Ranieri‘s Roma. Just like their male colleagues, the Giallorosse find victory at the last breath, tying with Inter in the standings (with a game in hand).

A lively and entertaining match unfolded at the Tre Fontane, as expected. Before fans could even settle in the stands, Roma troubled the Inter defense, with Runarsdottir immediately making an impact. However, it was Inter who took the lead at the first opportunity.

Giugliano carelessly lost the ball in a dangerous area, triggering a counterattack by Piovani‘s side with Csiszar playing the ball to Wullaert on the right side of the penalty area. The former Wolfsburg player beat Kresche with a perfect curling shot into the far corner. Roma did not let the setback affect them too much and started to gain ground, creating chance after chance without restoring parity before the end of the first half.

The second half started in a similar fashion with the Giallorosse in search of an equalizer and Inter ready to strike on the counter, exploiting the mistakes of the Roman defense.

At 68′, Roma found the equalizer with a penalty from Giugliano. Viens received the ball with her back to goal in the area, was fouled by Milinkovic, and the referee pointed to the spot without hesitation. From the penalty spot, the number 10 sent Runarsdottir

Roma, thanks to Coach Spugna‘s changes, pushed for a crucial victory and found the winning goal at the last second that sent the Tre Fontane into raptures. Corelli cut inside and attempted a cross into the middle, the deflected ball fell to Giugliano who confidently struck the ball. The Inter goalkeeper managed to block it but the rebound fell to Di Guglielmo who made no mistake from close range.

Karczewska saves Milan

Milan – Juventus 2 – 2

19′ Domping (M), 63′ Beccari (J), 72′ Girelli (J), 90′ Karczewska (M)

An exciting match at the Puma House of Football where Milan and Juventus share the points. The Old Lady immediately threatened the Rossoneri defense by hitting the post directly from a corner kick.

After the initial scare, Milan gained confidence and opened the scoring in the 19th minute from the penalty spot. A low cross from the left for RenzottiHarviken: the referee had no doubts and pointed to the spot.

Domping stepped up and converted the penalty, slotting it into the right corner past Peyraud-Magnin. Juventus tried to equalize, attacking throughout the first half, but failed to breach the defense of Bakker‘s team, who effectively closed the central spaces.

At the hour mark, the Bianconere found the equalizer through Beccari, who had only been on the field a couple of minutes. A rapid counterattack by the Old Lady saw Cantore released on the right, with the number 9 beating everyone to enter the box and setting up Beccari, who cleverly outfoxed Koivisto before beating Giuliani.

Juventus, boosted by the goal, completed the comeback shortly after with Cantore turning into an assist provider once again. The Bianconeri forward evaded her direct opponent with a sombrero, cut inside, and perfectly set up Girelli in the box, who crossed the ball with his right foot to beat the Rossoneri goalkeeper. Conceding their second goal, Milan pushed for an equalizer and found it in the 90th minute thanks to a moment of magic from Karczewska. The Rossoneri number 10, anticipating Nadim‘s slow diagonal ball into the box, cleverly continued the trajectory by backheeling the ball, deceiving Peyraud-Magnin.

A valuable draw for Milan as they close in on Fiorentina, now just 2 points away. Juventus consolidates their lead in the standings, 11 points clear of Inter and Roma.
