Serie A, relegation battle: all competing fiercely, but who will be relegated?

Published

on

Serie A

Serie A

Napoli-Torino, match valid for the 34th round of Serie A: curiosities and statistics on the game scheduled for Sunday, April 27 at 8:45 pm.

NapoliTorino will close the Sunday of Serie A.

The Blues have been at the top of the table since last week: the victory over Monza, combined with Inter’s defeat in Bologna, allowed Antonio Conte’s men to reach the top.

On the other side, there is a Toro side aiming for a positive end to the season: the win against Udinese propelled the Granata to tenth place, with Vanoli aiming to finish on the left side of the table.

Below are the curiosities, statistics, and previous encounters of Napoli-Torino.

Napoli-Torino: curiosities and statistics

Napoli has won six of the last eight matches against Torino in Serie A (1D, 1L), keeping a clean sheet five times in the process; the two matches where the Granata remained unbeaten date back to last season: 3-0 at home and 1-1 at Maradona.

Napoli is unbeaten in 12 consecutive home matches in Serie A against Torino (7W, 5D); however, the Neapolitans have drawn four of the last seven home games against the Granata, including the most recent one (1-1, March 8, 2024).

Napoli is the team that has accumulated the most points in this season against teams currently in the top positions of the Serie A table (top 10): 33 points, at least six more than any other team.

Torino has won two of the last three matches against teams starting the day in the top two positions in the Serie A table (1L), the same number of victories that the Granata achieved in the previous 33 games of this kind in the competition (9D, 22L).

Napoli has won the last two matches in Serie A (3-0 vs Empoli, 1-0 vs Monza) and has not achieved three wins in a row since the seven-match winning streak recorded between December and January; that streak also marks the last time Napoli won three consecutive matches with a clean sheet in the league (against Venezia, Fiorentina, and Hellas Verona).

In their last 10 away matches in Serie A, Torino has only lost twice, securing six draws (2W); during this period (since early December), no team has drawn more away games than the Granata in the competition (also six for Venezia).

Napoli is the team that has conceded the fewest goals in the top five European leagues this season (25); only twice have the Neapolitans conceded fewer goals after 33 matches in a Serie A season in tournaments with at least 20 teams (23 in 2017/18 and in 2022/23).

Scott McTominay has scored nine goals in this season, including a decisive one in the first leg match (1-0, December 1, 2024); in the De Laurentiis era, no Napoli midfielder has ever reached double figures in goals in their debut season in Serie A.

Romelu Lukaku has been involved in six goals (three goals, three assists) in the last three appearances at Maradona in the league, scoring in each match; only once has the Belgian scored in more consecutive home games in Serie A, reaching seven with Inter between September 2020 and January 2021.

Eljif Elmas’ first 143 appearances in Serie A, enriched by 14 goals between 2019 and 2023, came with Napoli; among the midfielders who have scored in each of the last six seasons in the competition (18 goals in total in the period), the Macedonian is the youngest (born in 1999).
