Twenty-fifth appointment with “Macché te lo guardi?”, the weekly column of Calciostyle dedicated to the 2024/2025 Serie A women’s championship.
Women’s football in Italy in recent years has been gaining more and more space, attracting the interest of millions of fans who experience the sport in our beloved Boot. Despite there still being a vast majority of people who “snub” this category, in recent seasons there have been several events and facts that have brought women’s football to a very high level.
We cannot overlook the transition to professionalism (1st July 2022) and reaching milestones that until a few years ago were unthinkable, such as reaching the 40,000 spectators mark for a single match.
Compared to other European countries (Spain and England in particular), the difference in terms of audience and interest surrounding women’s football is, to quote a famous Roman expression, “still a dear friend,” meaning it is still quite significant.
By also leveraging the irreverence of the column title “Macché, te lo guardi?”, we want to shed further light on a reality that is gaining more and more ground in our beloved country: women’s football. Ultimately, what matters to us Italians is to watch and be able to comment on the game of football, regardless of who is playing.
Serie A Femminile, the seventh round of Scudetto Pool and Relegation Pool
The seventh round of the Scudetto Pool and Relegation Pool of Serie A women’s sees, especially at the top of the table, two great joys. Indeed, Juventus, after a two-year absence, returns to the top of Italy with three rounds to spare by defeating Milan at home thanks to a brace from the unstoppable and increasingly legendary Cristiana Girelli. The Old Lady owes her sixth Scudetto to the Bianconeri striker, who scored 19 goals in 22 appearances this season.
Also celebrating is Inter under Piovani. In the big home match against Roma for the fight for second place, the Nerazzurre beat the Giallorosse 3-0 and mathematically secure their historic first qualification for the Women’s Champions League.
In the Relegation Pool, Lazio and Sassuolo win convincingly against Napoli and Como, respectively. The Biancocelesti overtake Como once again in the standings, taking the lead in the Relegation Pool. Meanwhile, the Neroverdi close the gap on the Larian team in the standings.

Piemonte and Goldoni lead Lazio: Napoli’s regret

A third consecutive victory for Lazio under Grassadonia as they defeat Napoli at home at the Marko Fersini stadium in Formello. The home team starts stronger with the ever-so-spirited Piemonte putting her personal stamp on the match just two minutes in.
The former Milan and Roma forward is skillful in receiving a pass in the box from Simonetti and, with a quick turn, sends the direct opponent to the bar, launched in a sliding tackle to stop the Biancocelesti’s attack. A strong finish on the far post where Bacic can do little or nothing.
Lazio dominates the field and continues to attack, finding the second goal 4 minutes before the end of the first half. A free-kick from Eriksen to the far post where Goldoni emerges with a header to score on the opposite post past the Napoli goalkeeper. The response from the visiting team is swift, and in added time they come inches away from equalizing with Moretti, who fails to put enough power on his header from close range to beat Cetinja, who makes a decisive reflex save.
This is an alarm bell for the Biancocelesti defense, which concedes a goal at the start of the second half through the magic of Di Giammarino. From the left, Sciabica cuts inside and finds the number 21 Napoli player in the middle, who, with a first-time shot, clinically places the ball perfectly into the top corner.
Despite having plenty of time left, Napoli’s attacks prove futile as they push until the end, without finding the equalizing goal. The relegation battle scheduled for the next matchday will be decisive in determining whether Napoli or Sampdoria will be relegated.
Easy victory for Sassuolo: Como tamed in 36 minutes

Another third consecutive victory for Sassuolo as they close out the match against Como in just 36 minutes, halting Como’s streak of 4 consecutive positive results.
Right from the start, the Neroverdi take the lead with Clelland. Defensive blunder by Kramzar as she sets up the number 26 forward in the box unintentionally, who one-on-one with the Como goalkeeper makes no mistake. Como is nowhere to be seen in the first half, and Sassuolo takes advantage, going two goals ahead at the half-hour mark again through the ’93 class. A lightning counterattack by the home team, 2 against 1. Dhont draws the defender towards her and serves Clelland in the middle, who dribbles past Ghilardi and scores his personal brace with an empty net.
Seven minutes later, Sassuolo scores the third goal from a corner kick. Dhont takes the corner, and Clelland heads it against the crossbar: Gallazzi is the quickest to react and takes advantage of the loose ball in the box to seal the game. In the second half, Como tries to make a comeback but must contend with the brilliant Neroverdi goalkeeper, who excels in saving Kramzar‘s close-range shot.
Three crucial points for Sassuolo as they shorten the gap to just 1 point in the standings behind Como. With just four points separating Lazio, Como, and Sassuolo, Napoli and Sampdoria find themselves increasingly isolated in the relegation battle.

Juventus x6: Girelli leads the celebration

Juventus returns to the top of Italy under coach Canzi. The celebration for the sixth Scudetto in Juventus history takes place in Biella: a near-perfect season for the Old Lady, who clinches the Tricolore with three rounds to spare.
Leading the celebration is the top scorer of the Serie A women’s: Cristiana Girelli. The Juventus striker’s brace, at the end of the first half and start of the second half, seals the home victory against a determined Milan. Just before half-time, Girelli is brought down in the box by Sorelli, and the referee points to the spot without hesitation. The number 10 Bianconera steps up from the penalty spot and beats Fedele.
For Juventus’ second goal, the Sorelli-Girelli duel is once again in the spotlight, with the ’90s class emerging victorious. A flick from Cantore to the striker who outmaneuvers Sorelli and, thanks to a deflection off her, beats Fedele. Girelli has scored 19 goals in 22 appearances, putting on a spectacular season and being one of the main contributors to Juventus’ sixth Scudetto. The goal now is to arrive in top form for the Coppa Italia final against Roma, scheduled for May 18th in Como.
Inter makes history: first qualification in Women’s Champions League

A historic day for Inter under coach Piovani, as they defeat Roma at home with a resounding 3-0 victory and secure their first-ever qualification for the next edition of the Women’s Champions League.
Right from the start, Roma threatens with the post hit by Haavi just two minutes into the game. However, the Giallorosse fade away from that point onward and struggle to create opportunities against Runarsdottir.
Inter opens the scoring in the 6th minute with Elisa Polli. The Nerazzurri forward becomes unstoppable when facing the Giallorosso defense: she scores her sixth goal of the season, the third against her former Italian champions. A great offensive transition by Inter with Wullaert providing a perfect cross for Csiszar’s header, hitting the crossbar. The ball bounces on the line but is pushed into the net by the responsive Polli.
Roma feels the impact and disappears from the field, leaving the Nerazzurre as absolute masters of the game. Inter takes advantage, creating a shooting gallery at the goal defended by Ceasar, who on several occasions comes up big to save the Spugna team from a heavier humiliation. For the Giallorosse, this season has been often unlucky, as evidenced by the second goal scored by the Nerazzurre.
Wullaert crosses low for Polli, but Troelsgaard intervenes, inadvertently sending the ball into her own net in an embarrassing manner. Eight minutes later, Inter finds the third goal through the former Roma captain Bartoli. More than just damage, it’s a blow to Roma to see their former captain score against them.
A short corner is taken by Schough, who receives centrally at the edge of the box. A mishit by the number 22 player becomes a perfect assist for Bartoli’s acrobatic shot in the box, leaving Ceasar with no chance.
Unbridled joy at the Gianni Brera as the Nerazzurre secure a historic qualification for the Women’s Champions League. A deep red for Roma, who will have to bounce back in these final matches to not squander the Coppa Italia final against Juventus, scheduled for May 18th in Como.

Because in the end, all we Italians care about is watching and being able to comment on the game of football, regardless of who is playing. Women’s Serie A, the tenth round of Scudetto and Relegation PoolThus ends the tenth and final round of the Scudetto and Relegation Pool. There was only one verdict to decipher, who will join Juventus and Inter in the Women’s Champions League: in the Europa clash between Fiorentina and Roma, the Giallorossi emerged victorious and secured a pass to the European cup thanks to captain Giugliano’s penalty early in the second half. In the other match of the Scudetto Pool, the Old Lady fell at home against Inter, but the party at the Allianz is all in black and white for the sixth scudetto conquered. Touching moments during the pasillo de honor of Sara Gama, the historic Juventus captain who will hang up her boots at the end of the season. Along with her, Guagni also bids farewell to playing football in Como’s 3-1 victory over Napoli. Finally, Sampdoria bid farewell to the top flight with yet another defeat in their championship against Sassuolo. Next appointment is the Coppa Italia final between Juventus and Roma on Saturday, May 17th in Como. The Lariane took the lead in the first descent with Karlernas. A cross from the left into the area by Marcussen, a header by Nischler to redirect the trajectory of the ball that ends on the far post where Karlernas finds the back of the net with an open goal to score her fifth goal of the season. Napoli’s response doesn’t take long and less than two minutes later, they equalize the game. Banusic on the left with a long cross to the far post where Lundorf is quick to anticipate the direct opponent and tap in to beat Schroffenegger, back in goal after a long injury. Como regains the lead shortly after the half-hour mark thanks to a red pencil error in the opposition’s setup phase. Santoro completely misses the pass on which Nischler pounces, who in a 2 vs 1 situation serves Kerr on the right, who scores at the penalty spot to beat Beretta. In the second half, Napoli tries to get back into the game, but despite some interesting incursions, they never manage to be dangerous in the offensive zone. The Lariane take advantage and score the third goal on the counter, virtually closing the game. With less than a quarter of an hour left, after providing two assists, Nischler also adds her name to the scoresheet. A lightning counterattack from Como with the 2000-born forward skillfully lifting the ball just enough to beat the Napoli goalkeeper after closing down Del Estal. During the second half, there is also room for some emotion. In fact, in addition to Sara Gama, Como player Alia Guagni also leaves the field for the last time in her career. Pasillo de honor is a must for one of the absolute protagonists of the recent history of Italian women’s football and the Italian National Team (87 appearances). An important tribute to the 36-year-old who can boast a Serie A title with Fiorentina in 2018 and a Spanish Super Cup with Atletico Madrid. Despite a good performance, Napoli ends their season with a defeat. On the other hand, Como consolidates the second place in the Relegation Pool.

A very spectacular match between the Doriane and Sassuolo, who spare no effort. The match is already lively after a few minutes with both teams coming close to taking the lead: first Sampdoria with Llopis, then Sassuolo with Monterubbiano. However, the away team unlocks the match with the 2006-born Cimò. A venomous long ball from Pittaccio to the young player who burns the Doria defense in speed and one-on-one with Di Nallo, doesn’t miss. At the 20th minute, the momentum of the match changes with Sampdoria reduced to 10. A straight red for Barbieri for a rash challenge on Monterubbiano, making the game uphill for the blucerchiate despite being in the lead. Thanks to the numerical superiority, Sassuolo equalizes from a corner kick in the 34th minute. Corner from the left for Perselli’s flying heel flick, a monstrous reflex by Tampieri leaving the ball loose in front of the goal line where Monterubbiano arrives first and scores. The pace, after the equalizer, slows down for the entire middle part of the match and just over an hour into the game, incredibly Samp, despite being a player down, takes the lead again. A lofted pass over the entire midfield by Heroum for Baldi who enters the area and beats Di Nallo with a precise diagonal, celebrating on the blucerchiata bench. Having a player less starts to show at Sampdoria’s home, and within ten minutes they succumb to Sassuolo’s comeback. The equalizing goal is a pure gem. Clelland receives on the wing and with a brilliant cross finds Girotto in the middle, who pulls off an unimaginable play: a scorpion kick to beat Pisani, the ball hits the crossbar and goes in. No chance for Tampieri who remains motionless on the invention of number 58. After the magnificent assist, Clelland steps up and with her brace gives her home crowd a final afternoon of celebration. Girotto plays a through ball to the Scottish forward, who burns her direct opponent and beats Tampieri with a powerful right-footed shot. With time already expired, the fourth goal for Sassuolo comes on the counterattack: Samp pushing forward to find the equalizer, Sassuolo recovers and launches Clelland into space again, who converts a one-on-one against Tampieri. Sassuolo closes their season with a victory, while Sampdoria leaves the top flight with a bitter taste.
Resting: Lazio Scudetto PoolGiugliano’s penalty sends Roma to the Champions LeagueFiorentina – Roma 0 – 1 48′ Giugliano (R) The last missing verdict was who could join Juventus and Inter in the Women’s Champions League next year between Roma and Fiorentina. Thus, at the Viola Park, a do-or-die match for the two teams. After a fairly quiet first half without any particular difficulties, the episode that decides the match arrives early in the second half. Haavi is brought down in the area, and there are no doubts for the referee who points to the penalty spot. Captain Giugliano steps up from the spot and beats Fiskerstrand. The match, after Roma’s lead, heats up with the two teams hitting a total of 6 woodworks: 3 each. However, Fiorentina, despite hitting the woodwork several times, fails to really threaten, allowing the game to slide towards its natural end, also due to a very fragmented second half. Roma, despite a not-so-great performance, secures the fourth consecutive qualification in the Champions League. An objective that at the beginning of the season should have been the bare minimum, but during this fluctuating year has become something very precious. The last chance to lift a difficult season is the Coppa Italia final against Juventus, scheduled for Saturday, May 17th at the Sinigaglia in Como.
Scudetto celebration for Juve and pasillo de honor for Gama: Inter prevails with BugejaJuventus – Inter 0 – 1 76′ Bugeja (I) Inter’s superb season ends in the best way, defeating Juventus, the newly crowned champions of Italy, at home. However, the spotlight is initially taken by Sara Gama. The iconic captain of Juventus hangs up her boots. Such a deep and touching farewell could not have a more fitting public setting for the player: the Allianz Stadium. The Juventus male stadium becomes the perfect closure for the Juventus number 3, who is given the pasillo de honor by teammates and opponents. The entire stadium rises to applaud one of the most important and iconic players in Italian women’s football. Gama leaves Juventus after 154 appearances and six national titles, three Coppa Italias, and three Italian Super Cups, all with the captain’s armband. The match, after these touching moments, resumes with Inter taking control and being more dominant than a Juventus side waiting for the final whistle to start the Scudetto celebration. The Nerazzurre have greater offensive presence and 15 minutes from the end, they seal the game with the substitute Bugeja. Detruyer serves the midfielder in the center of the area, who with a counter movement towards the outside beats Harkiven and beats the Bianconeri goalkeeper with a precise left-footed shot. Juventus, in the final stages, comes alive especially thanks to Vangsgaard, who also enters and is one of the most proactive players in the Bianconeri lineup. The former PSG player, however, has to deal with Runarsdottir on a couple of occasions. A painless defeat for Juventus who will face Roma in the Coppa Italia final in less than a week, on Saturday, May 17th at the Sinigaglia in Como. Inter closes a great season on a high note, culminating in the historic first access to the Women’s Champions League.
