Barcelona-Champions League: The situation in Barca’s Liga ahead of the return match against Inter. A glimmer of hope for Ancelotti. Here are the details:

European football is approaching the end of its seasons, but despite only two leagues having already seen one of their teams crowned champions of the 2024/2025 season (PSG in France and Liverpool in England), for all others, everything is still up in the air.

In the Liga, where Barcelona leads the table as the front-runner, in line with hopes of a treble, albeit at the expense of potential commitments in the Champions League. The blaugrana team will be on the field this Tuesday against Inter in the return match that could secure their spot in the Monaco final. However, before that, the Catalans must face Real Valladolid, a club owned by Ronaldo “the Phenomenon.” Despite the team already being relegated weeks in advance, they will have the opportunity to challenge the top of the class, one of the most prestigious and recognized clubs in the world, against whom they will not have another chance to compete for at least another year.

A special note concerns the current season, where many teams similar to Valladolid, who are, or have been in the relegation battle, have caused upsets against the top teams. This is the case of Valencia, who as a relegation candidate managed to defeat Real Madrid, an achievement that had not happened in 17 years. Or Leganés, currently second to last in the standings just ahead of Valladolid, who surprised everyone by beating Barcelona 0-1 at Montjuïc.

Awaiting the Clásico on May 11, even Real Madrid, currently 4 points behind the Catalans, will have to face Celta Vigo, currently seventh in the standings. If they were to suffer a defeat, with a Barcelona victory, the blancos would find themselves 7 points behind the top spot, significantly jeopardizing the hopes of closing out Carlo Ancelotti’s last season at Real Madrid with at least one title on a high note.

AS Roma started their journey in the Europa League rather negatively, with 2 defeats in the first 3 games. However, their performance in the league is quite different.

The home defeat against Viktoria Plzen left a bitter taste, along with some perplexity. Gasperini’s team has struggled to get going in the Europa League and has lost both home games so far. There have been too many defensive mistakes, which once again have cost the Giallorossi dearly.

Against Lille, it was Tsimikas who made a naive error that led to the French goal, while in yesterday’s game, it was young Ziolkowski who made the mistake and was substituted by Gasperini after just half an hour. While the defense seems to be the strong point of this team in the league, they are making too many mistakes and lack precision in the Europa League.

Roma, a sterile attack

Dybala scored his first goal of the season from a penalty, but more is expected from him. Finally, Bailey is proving to be in form and able to make an impact, having come on in the last two games and igniting the Olimpico with his plays.

Gasperini must find a solution and hope to mentally recover his two strikers, who currently seem demoralized and disconnected from the team.
