Twenty-seventh appointment with “Macché te lo guardi?”, the weekly column of Calciostyle dedicated to the 2024/2025 Serie A Women’s Championship.
The women’s football movement in Italy in recent years is increasingly gaining space, attracting the interest of millions of fans who live sport in our beloved Boot. Despite there still being a vast majority of people who “snub” this category, in recent seasons there have been several events and facts that have elevated women’s football to a very high level.
We cannot fail to mention the move to professionalism (July 1, 2022) and reaching milestones that until a few years ago were unthinkable, such as reaching the quota of 40 thousand spectators for a single match.
Compared to other European countries (Spain and England above all), the difference in terms of audience and interest surrounding women’s football is, to quote a famous Roman expression, “still a dear friend,” meaning very wide.
Also taking advantage of the irreverence of the column title “Macché, te lo guardi?”, we want to shed further light on a reality that is increasingly taking hold in our beloved country: women’s football. Ultimately, what interests us Italians is just watching and being able to comment on the game of football, regardless of who is playing.
Women’s Serie A, the ninth round of Scudetto Pool and Relegation Pool
With 90 minutes remaining in the 2024/2025 Women’s Serie A season, there is only one verdict left to give. The last spot for the Women’s Champions League will be decided next week in the match at Viola Park between Fiorentina and Roma. The two teams are separated by just one point, with Viola defeating Inter and the giallorosse drawing against Milan.
A wasteful Roma squanders a three-goal lead, setting up a final showdown with Fiorentina for the last spot in the Women’s Champions League. The other verdict awaited is regarding relegation. The confirmation came with the defeat against Como for Sampdoria, sealing their passage to the lower league.
Finally, Lazio closed their season with a heavy 5-0 win over Sassuolo. Once again, the renowned duo of Le Bihan and Piemonte were the stars of the show.
Relegation Pool
Lazio’s whitewash: Piemonte-Le Bihan lead Lazio
Lazio – Sassuolo 5 – 0
48′, 56′ Le Bihan (L), 53′ Oliviero (L), 89′, 90+5′ Piemonte (L)
Grassadonia‘s Lazio closes their season in the best possible way. The biancocelesti triumph with a heavy 5-0 win, all in the second half, over Sassuolo. A very positive Relegation Pool for the newly promoted team, with only one defeat against Como and 7 victories, often by large margins. They conclude the season at the top of the Relegation Pool standings, with 41 points.
Everything is decided in the second half. Le Bihan opens the scoring from the penalty spot. Visentin is brought down in the box by Fusini, and there are no doubts for the referee: the Frenchwoman steps up from the spot and doesn’t miss.
From this moment on, Sassuolo, after a good start in the first half, completely collapses, leaving huge spaces for Grassadonia‘s side. 5 minutes after taking the lead, Lazio doubles the advantage with the first goal of the season from Oliverio. The left-back receives the ball on the left, cuts inside, and unleashes a precise shot from the edge of the box that finds the bottom corner.
180 seconds later, Lazio makes it 3-0. Again, Oliverio for Le Bihan: the full-back returns the earlier assist with a low cross into the center for the French striker, who controls, turns, and fires home with a powerful right foot.
A few minutes before the end, Martina Piemonte also joins the party: the former Milan and Roma striker ends the season with a personal tally of 17 goals in 23 matches. And against Sassuolo, she doesn’t hold back: a brace in the final minutes to bid farewell to the home fans in style. First with a precise header, then with a powerful strike from a free kick, Piemonte completes the 5-0 win.
Sassuolo will end their season with the already relegated Sampdoria.
Sampdoria heads to Serie B: Nischler’s brace decisive
Sampdoria – Como 1 – 2
3′ Llopis (S), 35′, 80′ Nischler (C)
Sampdoria relegates to Serie B with one match to spare. The doriane lose at home to Como and are forced to leave the top flight after three years.
At the Sciorba, Sampdoria‘s remaining hopes of staying in Serie A fade away. The home team starts strong and takes the lead after 3 minutes with Llopis. A free kick from the offensive third is met by the head of Heroum, who nods the ball into the box: the Larian defense fumbles and leaves the ball loose for the powerful left-footed shot by the blucerchiato striker, sparking joy on the doriane bench.
Samp continues with the early momentum, but due to a lot of imprecision, they fail to find the second goal that would have sealed the match. Como takes advantage, and just after the half-hour mark, they draw level. Out of nowhere, the lariane equalize thanks to Nischler‘s ninth goal of the season: the South Tyrolean striker steals a march on the doriano defender in the box and beats Tampieri after an acrobatic attempt by Bou. It’s worth noting the lightweight defense of the blucerchiata side.
The goal that condemns Samp to relegation to Serie B arrives 10 minutes from the end, again from the feet of Nischler. Once again, the home defense is at fault: too much space is given to the lariane forward, who receives the ball at the penalty spot and places the final 1-2 beyond the reach of the doriano goalkeeper.
Como will end their season at home against Napoli, while Sampdoria will face Sassuolo.

Boquete show: Champions League qualification on the line at home
Inter – Fiorentina 1 – 3
8′ Santi (I), 34′ 57′ Boquete (F), 42′ Snerle (F)
Boquete gives Fiorentina a last chance to qualify for the Women’s Champions League for the second consecutive year. The brace from the ’87 class and the goal from Snerle give the team of De La Fuente the opportunity to fight for Champions League qualification at Viola Park against a Roma side far from irresistible.
However, it’s Piovani‘s Inter that starts better, taking the lead after 8 minutes. After a quick scramble in the box, Pavan is first to beat the direct opponent and then serves the onrushing Santi, who unleashes a low rocket from outside the box that finds the far post. Nothing Fiskerstrand can do.
Fiorentina doesn’t falter and threatens the Nerazzurre with the post hit by Janogy after a defensive error by Bartoli
Once again, Janogy is the protagonist, hitting the woodwork for the second time from the edge of the box (even more unfortunate as the ball travels across the goal without entering). Bonfatini collects the loose ball and plays a perfect through pass to Boquete who unloads a powerful right-footed shot into the net. A few minutes later, Fiorentina completes the comeback with a goal from Snerle (42′): Janogy serves Bonfantini in the middle of the box, who attracts the entire Nerazzurri defense before passing to the unmarked Snerle on the left.
The midfielder sends Bartoli and Baldi the wrong way with a feint and puts Viola in front. To seal the game, Boquete strikes again just before the hour mark. A remarkable goal from the ’87 class who receives the ball at the edge of the box and invents a powerful shot to the near post that Baldi can’t stop.
For Inter, already assured of a place in the Champions League, it’s their first defeat of the season in front of their home fans. The Viola give themselves one last chance to reach the Champions League at the last matchday against Roma.
Roma’s harakiri: Champions League qualification postponed to Viola Park
Roma – Milan 3 – 3
5′ Giacinti (R), 28′ Giugliano (R), 47′ Kuhl (R), 54′ Mesjasz (M), 59′, 90+3′ Ijeh (M)
A Jekyll and Hyde Roma squanders a three-goal lead and the mathematical certainty of the Champions League. The giallorosse, with a victory over the rossonere, had secured their fourth consecutive qualification for the Champions League thanks to the head-to-head advantage over Fiorentina. Instead, everything will be decided next week at Viola Park.
The capital club goes two goals up with the familiar face of the ex. First, Giacinti strikes, ready to pounce on a low cross from the left, and then Giugliano doubles the lead from the penalty spot. Early in the second half, Roma makes it 3-0 with a precise shot from Kuhl, her first goal in Italy. However, from that moment onward, the giallorosse crumble, allowing Milan to snatch a match that moments earlier seemed completely closed.
In the space of five minutes, the rossonere score two goals. A header from a corner by Mesjasz opens the scoring, then it’s Roma who shoots themselves in the foot. Ceasar makes a mistake in the build-up, giving the ball to Arrigoni who sets up Ijeh to level the game with the goalkeeper at her mercy.
Once again, the young Swedish striker is in the spotlight. With time running out, she charges towards Roma‘s goal, cuts inside, and produces a fantastic curling shot from outside the box that nestles just under the crossbar.
A performance divided in two for Roma: excellent first 45 minutes, completely wasteful second half. Now they face a must-win match against Fiorentina next week to secure the final spot in the Women’s Champions League, the minimum goal for Spugna‘s side.

WomenFuture between Roma and Premier![]() Linari in the sights of English clubs, between career choices and Roma Women: between leadership and Premier dreams, decision coming soon. According to a tweet by sports journalist Leonardo Frenquelli, there is interest from an English club. Elena Linari, coming off a season as an undisputed leader, could consider a move to England as early as next summer. After Cantore, another departure abroad? Interest from across the Channel for Elena Linari In the last hours, strong interest from an English club for Elena Linari, defensive pillar of Roma Women and captain of the Italian National Team, has emerged. According to market sources, several teams from the Women’s Super League have initiated exploratory contacts. Among these is also a top club like the London City Lionesses. Linari is tied to the Giallorossi club by a contract that expires in 2026. Therefore, Roma would receive a very substantial fee in case of a transfer. Career: a journey of titles and international experiences Born in 1994, Linari has a solid and international career behind her. From her early steps in Firenze to a double with Brescia (2014, 2016), passing through a Serie A title with Fiorentina (2017), a Liga victory with Atletico Madrid (2019), and a brief experience in France before arriving at Roma in January 2021. With the Giallorossi jersey, she has confirmed her value: over 94 appearances, 13 goals in four years, two consecutive Serie A titles, Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa Italiana. Influence: voted best defender in Serie A (2023-24 and 2024-25). Currently, Elena has surpassed 100 appearances with Roma Women and, with over 100 caps for the National Team, leads the Italian defense with experience and personality. The last season of Roma Women Roma Women finished the 2024-25 season in third place in Serie A, won the Supercup, and participated in the Champions League until the group stage. The team was undoubtedly led by Linari, Giugliano, and Haavi: the defense is solid, the offensive phase is growing, and coach Spugna focuses on compactness and concreteness. Linari played 22 league games, also scoring in the Coppa Italia and leading the Giallorossi to a semifinal with a decisive goal against Napoli. At the end of the season, she emphasized the importance of the Champions League: “Difficult season, but we are proud.” What could change for the future of the club English interest in Linari could leave Roma with a significant gap in the backline. In view of the summer transfer market, Roma Women will have to decide whether to focus on an internal heir or seek reinforcements in the market. However, the potential departure of the captain could usher in a new phase: more space for young players like Dragoni, who has grown during the season. But also the need for defensive leadership. For Elena, the offer from the WSL represents an opportunity to compete internationally and refine her game in one of the best leagues in the world. On the other hand, Roma will have to prepare to redefine balances and hierarchies. Continuing to defend sporting ambitions: Serie A title, Coppa Italia, and Champions League qualification. Ensuring a competitive squad. Linari: a professional aware of her own value The player has always been attentive to team dynamics and focused on the future. Her potential transfer is not just an individual choice, but a potential turning point for the entire club. A transition from co-leader to facilitator, from historical reference to the “object of desire” of the international market. In the coming days, the official decision will be made. A satisfaction for them and for us who have the privilege of following them. The last time the Italy Under 20 Women’s team graced the world stage was in 2012. The long wait is over. Italy U20 makes us dream and Gravina doesn’t hold back in his praise: “Extraordinary Azzurrine. Qualifying is an exceptional milestone that dignifies the entire movement. Everything you need to know – Soccer style![]()
Cantore leaves Juventus Women to fly to the United States. Only beautiful words and gratitude for her departure. The player is a pride for everyone. From Turin to Washington. And Soncin proud. It is now official. Sofia Cantore leaves Juventus Women to join the top tier of the United States. The 1999-born forward has accepted the offer from Washington Spirit. The American club, to secure her services, has paid the buyout clause in her contract. We are talking about approximately 350,000 euros. This is a record figure for Italian women’s football. It will go down in history as one of the top three most lucrative deals in Europe this season. Steps forward that will allow future years to dream of such figures. As if that weren’t enough, Cantore will become the first Italian player to compete in the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League), the top U.S. women’s league. She will continue her career there after years of success in the black and white jersey. Even the Coach of the Women’s National Team, Andrea Soncin, commented on the transfer of his forward: Juventus: Thank you for everything, Sofia! The Bianconeri club could not let this farewell go unnoticed. They officially bid farewell to Sofia Cantore with a long statement published on their official website, entitled “THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING, SOFIA!”. Here is the full text: “Sprinting down the wing, perfect control, one-on-one, nutmeg on the opponent heading straight towards the penalty area, feint, shot to the far post. Goal. It’s difficult to find a way to encapsulate and put together all the pieces that make up the personality and talent of Sofia Cantore, but the goal scored against PSG in the first leg of the super qualifying match last September holds quite a few together, between technique, desire, quality, and speed. A player who over the years has become one of the protagonists of Juventus Women. After many successes achieved together, the paths of our team and Sofia Cantore diverge: the Bianconeri forward will permanently move to Washington Spirit, after wearing the Juventus Women jersey 128 times in her career, starting from those final 17 minutes in the 3-0 victory against Atalanta Mozzanica on September 30, 2017 – a memorable match for her, as she turned 18 that day, celebrating her adulthood with her Serie A debut. Cantore has truly grown in black and white in every aspect, winning Scudetti and trophies, climbing the ranks and carving out an increasingly important role within our team – up to the definitive consecration in the just-ended season, by far the best of her career with 18 goals in 39 matches. The last one coming in the farewell match, in the 4-0 final of the Coppa Italia, to close the circle exactly as she had opened it: with a victory. A great professional with a contagious smile and enthusiasm that we bid farewell to with great affection: thank you Sofi, good luck for the future!”. And what can we say? Crush it, Sofia.
