The Serie B playoff race is at its peak, with the last spot still uncertain between Cesena and Bari. The playoff grid is taking shape, with the battle for the third spot still open.

The possible Serie B playoff grid is entering its final phase, with the last spot still hanging in the balance between Cesena and Bari. With 50 points collected by Mignani’s team, just one point could be enough to secure Cesena’s participation in the upcoming post-season, despite the 47 points earned by Longo’s team.

In case of a tie in points, the biancorossi would be the ones smiling, thanks to the head-to-head matches in their favor. The rescheduled 34th round, postponed due to the death of Pope Francis, is shaping up to be decisive for the fate of both teams.

The battle for the third spot is equally uncertain. Cremonese‘s victory over Spezia allowed the grigiorossi to close in on the Ligurian team, bringing the score to 63 against 61. The third spot guarantees direct participation in the playoffs from the semi-finals, with the advantage of a double result in their favor and the home field advantage.

Serie B Playoffs, Dates and Possible Matchups

The Serie B playoffs will officially begin on May 17. The preliminary round will see the fifth-placed team, currently Juve Stabia, face off against the eighth-placed team, yet to be determined between Cesena and Bari. The sixth and seventh-placed teams, currently held by Catanzaro and Palermo, will compete in another match.

The semi-finals will take place on May 21 and 25. In these matches, the third-placed team will face the winner of the match between the sixth and seventh-placed teams. Similarly, the fourth-placed team will challenge the winner of the preliminary round between the fifth and eighth-placed teams. The final will be held on May 29 and June 1.

Following the final day of Serie B, Catanzaro and Palermo have secured their spots in the upcoming post-season. Juve Stabia, Spezia, and Cremonese are already qualified for the promotion playoffs.

The last available spot is still uncertain between Cesena and Bari. The bianconeri could secure their participation with a point against Modena, while the biancorossi will have to win and hope for a misstep from the Romagnoli.

The Serie B championship returns with matchday 9, offering an interesting Avellino-Spezia clash among many other matches.

The Irpinians under coach Biancolino aim to bounce back after a setback against Juve Stabia: Spezia visits Campania, dealing with a deficit, if not disastrous, position in the standings.

Avellino Team

Avellino enters the match with 12 points in the league (3 wins, 3 draws, 2 losses), coming off a 2-0 defeat in the Campanian derby against Juve Stabia. However, this setback does not erase the good progress made so far.

For the Irpinians, the notable absence of Roberto Insigne, younger brother of former Napoli player Lorenzo. Coach Biancolino is likely to opt for a 3-4-2-1 formation with Iannarilli in goal, and Cancelotti, Simic, and Fontanarossa in defense.

In midfield, Missori, Kumi, Palmiero, and Cagnano are expected to be starters. The focal point should be Lescano, with D’Andrea and Biasci in the attacking midfield positions.

Spezia Team

A completely different situation for the Ligurian team. Coach D’Angelo’s team finds itself with only 3 points from 8 matches, all drawn. It’s hard to believe that last season they were even close to promotion to Serie A, until Cremonese shattered their dreams.

The formation is expected to be 3-5-2. Sarr will be in goal for Spezia, protected by Wisniewski, Hristov, and Mateju in defense. In midfield, Vignali, Nagy, Esposito, Kouda, and Aurelio are likely to start. The two forwards should be Lapadula and Vlahovic.

The 8th day of Serie B sees Sampdoria-Frosinone face off: the blucerchiati are in second to last place in the standings, while the ciociari are in 3rd place.

The 8th day of Serie B sees Sampdoria-Frosinone face off: the blucerchiati are coming from a 3-1 defeat against Entella, while the ciociari are coming from a defeat against Monza by 1-0.

Sampdoria-Frosinone is valid for the 8th day of Serie B

Sampdoria

The Sampdoria is coming from a 3-1 defeat against Entella, a defeat in the Ligurian derby that costed Massimo Donati his position, replaced by Gregucci and Foti, with the goal once again of securing safety. For the blucerchiati, the script of last year is repeating itself, nullifying the promises of a true year zero this season. Unfortunately, they have to face reality, a tough opponent awaits at the Ferraris, with Frosinone being the third force in the standings.

Coaches Gregucci and Foti will line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation with a defense composed of Riccio, Hadzikadunic, and A. Ferrari; midfield formed by Depaoli, Abildgaard, Ricci, and Ioannou; the lone striker will be Coda supported by Barak and Cuni.

Frosinone

The Frosinone is coming from a 1-0 defeat against Monza, the second defeat for the ciociari after the one against Venezia, but despite everything, they are in third place in the standings, 2 points behind Palermo and 4 points behind Modena at the top of the Serie B table. The team coached by Alvini can aim high this year, after struggling in the previous season. For a team hungry for victory, the match against Sampdoria is a good opportunity to try and earn 3 full points.

The ciociari coach will set up a 4-3-2-1 formation with a defense composed of Depaoli, Abildgaard, Ricci, and Ioannou; midfield formed by Calò, Koutsoupias, and Grosso; the lone striker will be Raimondo supported by Ghedjemis and Masciangelo.

Sampdoria-Frosinone probable lineups

Sampdoria (3-4-2-1): Ghidotti; Riccio, Hadzikadunic, A. Ferrari; Depaoli, Abildgaard, Ricci, Ioannou; Barak, Cuni; Coda. Coach: Gregucci-Foti.

Frosinone (4-3-2-1): Palmisani; A. Oyono, Calvani, Monterisi, Bracaglia; Calò, Koutsoupias, Grosso; Ghedjemis, Masciangelo; Raimondo. Coach: Alvini.

Where to watch Sampdoria-Frosinone

The match Sampdoria-Frosinone, valid for the 8th day of Serie B, which will be played tomorrow at 3 pm, will be available on DAZN.
