Salernitana in chaos: risk of Serie C, appeal to CONI on playoffs. Fans in protest, some players ready to give up national team duty.
Dark moment for Salernitana. These are not the years of Pierino Prati and Gennaro Gattuso, nor the ones of the first historic presence in Serie A achieved in 1947. Salernitana, the only other team to have played in the top flight besides the team that became champion last night, is going through one of the saddest moments in its recent history.
After returning to Serie B last season, the descent of the little horse shows no signs of stopping, and a new chaos looms on the horizon. The specter of Serie C, which brings back to the minds of Campania fans the tragic 2005 season, when Salernitana was expelled from professionalism due to financial irregularities and forced to restart from Serie C1.
On the verge of a playoff showdown, for which the opponent is not yet known, yesterday it was announced that the Granata club has filed an appeal, arguing that the decision of Serie B to postpone the relegation playoffs directly affects the criteria for enrollment and admission to the next championships.
It is not a lawsuit, but an appeal that urges the CONI’s College of Guarantees to address the situation before June 10.
The ownership, led by Iervolino, appears determined and ready to take to the streets to resolve the situation. As evidenced, yesterday some fans displayed a banner in front of the league headquarters with the words: “Salerno does not give in”.
Even the players seem ready to do their part, even off the field: some of them, usually called up by their respective national teams like Hrustic and Lohoshvili, seem willing to forego international duty to help the team in the playoff battle.

35,000 spectators at the Barbera Stadium – Football vibes

Yesterday, Palermo drew 1-1 against Modena, but the crowd at the Barbera stadium was incredible: 35,000 spectators, reminiscent of the Serie A era.
Yesterday afternoon, Palermo drew 1-1 against Modena, failing to overtake the Emilian team in the standings. However, what is truly astonishing is the size of the crowd: a whopping 35,000 spectators at the Barbera stadium, a sight not seen since the early days in Serie A under Zamparini’s presidency.
Palermo, yesterday against Modena, record crowd at the Barbera Stadium: 35,000 attendees, reminiscent of the Serie A era under Zamparini
Yesterday, Palermo was held to a 1-1 draw against Modena, with the Rosanero taking the lead through Segre but being equalized by Modena with an own goal by Bereszynski. However, what stood out yesterday was the crowd, resembling a Serie A match: a total of 35,000 spectators packed the Barbera stadium, a sight not seen in almost 20 years, since Zamparini’s presidency in Serie A.
That year, especially in big matches against Juventus, Milan, or Inter, it was common for every seat at the Viale del Fante stadium to be filled, as the season ticket campaign was record-breaking, with only a portion of seats reserved for single tickets. There was a real hunger for football after years of failures, missed opportunities, and relegation bordering on disgrace, with the then-Favorita stadium suffering (such as the 47 paying spectators against Chievo in 1997).
Now, as then, there is a strong desire for football and a longing to return to Serie A. The call made by Inzaghi has been embraced by the fans, especially in yesterday’s match, which was the first high-profile game of the season. While the Rosanero fans hoped for a win, a draw is enough to strive for a place at the top of the table, aiming for promotion. It is hoped that the Barbera stadium will witness similar crowds in the future, making the Zamparini-Guidolin era not seem so distant.
