PSV, what future for Perisic? National team comes first
Views: 27
Ivan Perisic, a symbol player of PSV and decisive in the title-winning season, reflects on his extension. Here’s where we stand on the renewal.
The Croatian forward, who turned 36 last February, is approaching the expiration of his contract with the Dutch club, set for June 30th. After that date, the former Inter player will be a free agent and can freely negotiate with any other club, unless a renewal that, according to the latest rumors, is closer than expected.
According to the portal Eindhovens Dagblad, Perisic has already made a decision about his future, but prefers to clarify it with PSV’s management only after the upcoming commitments with the Croatian national team. The former Inter player will indeed be a key player in the two World Cup 2026 Qualifying matches on June 6th against Gibraltar and on June 9th against Czech Republic. Only after these matches, the player will give a definitive answer to the club.

PSV, optimism but watch out for the clause…
According to Sky Sports DE, negotiations between Perisic and PSV are progressing well, with both parties intending to continue together for at least another season. The Croatian has adapted perfectly to Eindhoven, where he has found continuity and a leading role. The numbers speak for him: 17 goals and 13 assists this season, a crucial contribution to PSV’s Eredivisie victory.
However, not all the details of the agreement have been finalized yet. The main issue concerns the player’s desire to include an exit clause in the new contract. Perisic would like to have the possibility to leave if he receives an offer from a top European club — a kind of “escape route” to seize one last great career opportunity. A perspective that, however, does not fully convince PSV, which would prefer to tie the future of the forward without potentially destabilizing external conditions.
It is in this delicate balance between personal ambition and club planning that Ivan Perisic’s future is at stake. PSV has shown belief in the Croatian, valuing him in a technical context where he has been able to perform at his best. Now it’s up to the player to decide between two options: continue his adventure in Eindhoven, perhaps with room for future developments, or start a new chapter elsewhere.
