Referees: What Changes in Serie A
It will be a season of turning points for Italian football, not so much for what happens with the ball at the players’ feet. But for how what happens when the game stops is managed. From the 2025/26 season, Serie A will officially enter a new era of refereeing communication. Finally, the often most discussed and least listened to protagonist will be given a voice: the referee.
Among the most anticipated innovations, the ‘In-Stadium VAR Announcement. What does it consist of? Every time a referee decision is reviewed on the monitor, or requires a long consultation of the VAR, the outcome will be announced by the same match official through a microphone at the stadium. This already happens in American football, and it was also the case at the Club World Cup.
The change aims to increase transparency, understanding, and engagement even for those watching from the stands or from the couch at home. A small turning point that, if applied correctly, could calm protests and controversies. And, not less important, restore authority to the referee.
Serie C Men’s and Women’s Serie A
But the innovation does not stop at Serie A. The AIA (Italian Referees Association) has announced the introduction of Video Support: a simplified version of the VAR. The categories involved will be Men’s Serie C and Women’s Serie A. There will be no physical VAR room. Instead, there will be video support available to the referee for controversial incidents. A “light” solution, economically sustainable, already in the process of regulation by FIFA.
At the managerial level, Gianluca Rocchi remains firm at the helm of CAN A. While Daniele Orsato (making his debut as an executive) is set to lead CAN C. Changes also in Serie D, where Stefano Braschi will take the place of Alessandro Pizzi, promoted to C.

No good news for Cagliari of Pisacane, who is coming off a home defeat against Bologna: injury for a defender.
The Sardinians are preparing for the next league challenge against Hellas Verona. However, the coach must deal with physical problems affecting a key player for him: Yerry Mina. The Colombian suffered an injury in the match against Bologna in the last round and is now working separately to recover. His condition will be evaluated ahead of the next league match.

“Coach Pisacane’s red and blue team took to the field this afternoon at the CRAI Sport Center for the resumption of training: thus began the week that will lead Cagliari to the match of the 8th round of the Serie A championship against Hellas Verona, scheduled for Sunday, October 26.
The first part of the session was dedicated to ball possession exercises, followed by a series of small-sided games. To finish, an aerobic workout. Yerry Mina, who needs to recover from a strain in the left thigh flexors, worked individually, along with Alessandro Di Pardo, Marko Rog, Nicola Pintus, and Boris Radunovic.
Tomorrow, Wednesday 22, a new training session is scheduled for the morning.”
