Napoli is on fire in the transfer market, but there is one position that continues to spark debate. With four competitions, the squad may be stretched too thin.

The Napoli is perhaps the most active Italian club in the market right now. After already securing five signings, next week the blues aim to finalize the arrivals of Juanlu Sánchez from Sevilla and Milinković-Savić from Torino.

These two deals would further strengthen the squad at the disposal of Antonio Conte, who is also awaiting the final offensive reinforcement. The primary target remains Dan Ndoye, but the Swiss player currently seems more distant.

Also awaited is the coach’s final decision on Vergara: if the young talent from the Napoli academy is loaned out, then a sixth midfielder will be needed, preferably versatile and capable of providing more solutions on the fly.

Napoli, do they need another full-back?

Amidst all this activity, however, there is one position where Napoli seems to be taking some risks: the left-back role.

In a season with only Serie A and Coppa Italia, Olivera and Spinazzola would be sufficient. But with four competitions to tackle, there is a feeling that something more might be needed. Conte admires Olivera for his defensive and physical qualities, as well as the attacking threat and pace of Spinazzola, but doubts persist. The former Roma and Juventus player has suffered numerous injuries in recent years and also missed several games last season, just like the Uruguayan.

There is no one in the squad who provides real guarantees in that position. Some players could adapt, perhaps Di Lorenzo or even Juanlu Sánchez, but those would still be makeshift solutions in an unfamiliar role for both players.

Who knows, with the friendly against Girona on the horizon, the return of Miguel Gutiérrez might become relevant again. Just a month ago, he was on the verge of joining Napoli and then linked closely to Juventus before disappearing completely from the radar.

It is also possible that, considering the significant investments already made, the club and Conte have decided to delay the left-back signing to the next season. But with such an intense season ahead, there remains a significant risk.
