The Blue Team is preparing for the semifinals of the Women’s European Football Championship. The Italy-England match is scheduled for tonight at 9 pm in Geneva.
After 28 years since their last semifinal appearance, the Blue Team is ready to take the field for another important milestone. The opponent this time will be England, the defending champions, who have won all three matches in their group and defeated Sweden on penalties in the quarter-finals. The winner will face either Germany or Spain.
Probable lineup of the Blue Team
The lineup of the Blue Team is expected to remain unchanged from the one that defeated Norway in the quarter-finals thanks to Cristiana Girelli’s brace. In goal, Giuliani will be there, with a back four composed of Di Guglielmo, Salvai, Linari, and Oliviero. In midfield, Caruso, Giugliano, and Severini, who is expected to be preferred over Boattin. The attacking trident will be formed by Cantore, Bonansea, and Girelli.

Disappointing home debut for Rossettini’s Roma. Defeated 0-4 against Barcelona’s aliens in a sold-out Tre Fontane.
Second matchday and second defeat for Roma under Rossettini in the Women’s Champions League. After facing Real Madrid a week ago, Roma welcomed the aliens from Barcelona. “Aliens” because they are not only one of the strongest, if not the strongest, teams in the world, but also had a superb start to the season.
Since the beginning of the 2025/2026 season, Barcelona has played 8 matches, winning all of them, scoring 44 goals and conceding only two. A true powerhouse, which also crushed the Giallorossa team in a completely sold-out Tre Fontane.

Despite a significant technical gap, Rossettini‘s girls managed to keep up with the Spanish team in the first half, ending the first half only one goal down, scored less than two minutes into the match. Roma played a defensive game, trying to limit Barcelona‘s constant passing game and exploiting their high defensive line for counterattacks.
The opportunity for an equalizer came to Viens, who faced the opposing goalkeeper one-on-one but was unable to score. In the second half, due to collective fatigue, Barcelona scored three more goals past Baldi‘s goal. The Spanish team also missed a penalty with former Ballon d’Or winner Putellas, who shot high.
Despite the differences on the field, there are positive aspects for coach Rossettini to take into account for the upcoming matches in the league and Champions League, where the opponents will be, at least on paper, more manageable and within reach.

Weekly appointment with “Macché te lo guardi?”, the column of Calciostyle dedicated to the Serie A Women 2025/2026 championship. Here is the second matchday!
The women’s football movement in Italy in recent years is gaining more and more space, attracting the interest of millions of fans who live sports in our beloved Boot. Despite there still being a vast majority of people who “snub” this category, in recent seasons there have been several events and facts that have elevated women’s football to a very high level.
We cannot overlook the transition to professionalism (July 1, 2022) reaching milestones that were unthinkable just a few years ago, such as reaching 40,000 spectators for a single match.
Compared to other European countries (Spain and England above all), the difference in terms of audience and interest surrounding women’s football is, to quote a famous Roman expression, “still a dear friend”, meaning very wide. In the summer, the performances of the Italian National Team (reaching the semi-finals) in the European Championship, held in Switzerland, have certainly brought a lot of attention to the entire movement, but there is still a long way to go to give the right spotlight to the Italian championship.
Also taking advantage of the irreverence of the column title “Macché, te lo guardi?”, we want to shed further light on a reality that is increasingly taking hold in our beloved country: women’s football. Because in the end, we Italians are only interested in watching and being able to comment on the game of football, regardless of who is playing it.
Serie A Women, the second matchday of the season
The Serie A Women is running smoothly with the second matchday of the season. Many surprises and last-second twists accompany us in the second round. The spotlight is stolen by Como, who beats an entirely rotated Juventus at home: only one point in two matches for the Bianconeri who are still struggling to find their game and continuity.
Leading at the top of the table we find a very interesting trio: Roma, Lazio, and Napoli. Roma coached by Rossettini, thanks to the usual Giugliano, clinches three crucial points away at Milan in the 91st minute. Lazio easily defeats Genoa, relegating them to the bottom of the table, while Napoli beats newly promoted Ternana in a spectacular and fiery 4-3 finish.
Instead, a 2-2 draw between Fiorentina and Inter, while Parma clinches the Emilia derby in the final moments against Sassuolo. The cup exertions are already taking their toll, forcing the Old Lady and the Biscione to drop important points along the way.
Simonetti and Goldoni lead Lazio to the top
Lazio – Genoa 2 – 1
9′ Simonetti (L), 65′ Goldoni (L), 84′ Vigilucci (G)
Second consecutive victory and top of the table for Lazio under Grassadonia, who also defeat Genoa under De La Fuente. A quick start and the Biancocelesti immediately take the lead with Simonetti. The ’97 class striker makes the most of a loose ball on the edge of the Genoa area, finds himself in front of Forcinella, and with a precise shot, puts the home team ahead.
Unfortunate for the Biancocelesti player who has to leave the field prematurely due to a physical problem. However, Lazio continues to dominate the field and is not in danger, with Genoa struggling to reach Durante‘s goal.
In the second half, the story remains the same with Lazio setting the pace of the game. Around the hour mark, Grassadonia’s band comes close to doubling the lead with PiemonteGoldoni on a brilliant cross from Le Bihan, increasingly a beacon for the Roman club.
Genoa reopens the game in the 84th minute with their first shot on target. The Lazio defense caught off guard as Vigilucci unleashes a shot from the edge of the area that finds the top corner on the opposite side. No chance for Durante. Nevertheless, the final whistle sees celebrations from Lazio under Grassadonia, confirming the excellent start to the season between the Serie A Women Cup and the league.
Como’s surprise win at Juventus: the Bianconeri have never been this bad
Juventus – Como 0 – 1
84′ Nischler (C)
Great upset by Como, who defeat Juventus under coach Canzi away from home. Despite a good start in the Women’s Champions League, the Bianconeri, for the second consecutive match, fail to secure a win. Never before in the history of Serie A had the Old Lady remained winless in the first two matches.
In Biella, a fully rotated Juventus takes the field, looking ahead to the second Champions League match. Despite this, the two teams provide an entertaining first half full of opportunities. On one side, Girelli, Godo, Beccari, and Krumbiegel, on the other side, Nischler, and former players Lehmann and Pavan warm up the goalkeepers. The enticing first half gives way to a second half where Juventus push harder, raising the pressure and forcing the Como defense to work extra hard. Around the hour mark, Beccari comes close to scoring with a long-range shot that hits the post.
However, the decisive blow is struck by Como with the first goal of the season by Nischler in the 84th minute. A corner from the left to the far post finds the number 7 completely unmarked, allowing her to volley the ball into the net. An easy finish for the Larian striker that beats De Jong without any trouble. At the end of the match at the “Pozzo,” the Como bench erupts in a celebration that will go down in history. It is, in fact, the first-ever victory for Como against the Old Lady.
A complete reset for Juventus, with only one point after the first 180 minutes.
Inter avoids defeat in the nick of time: Fiorentina’s excellent response
Fiorentina – Inter 2 – 2
41′ Polli (I), 45+1′ Snerle (F), 49′ Omarsdottir (F), 90+1′ Santi (I)
A thrilling draw at the Viola Park between Fiorentina under Pinones Arce and Inter under Piovani. The home team starts strong, putting pressure on the Nerazzurri defense both in open play and on set pieces. Despite this, it’s Inter that takes the lead with Polli. A lightning counterattack by the Biscione sees Schough fly down the left flank and deliver a perfect cross that finds number 9, who from close range, with the goal unguarded, simply taps it in.
The Viola’s response is immediate, and five minutes later they find the equalizer. A fantastic back-heel at the edge of the area by Omarsdottir sets up Snerle who calmly slots it past Runarsdottir with a precise shot that kisses the post and goes in. In the second half, Fiorentina further asserts themselves and comes close to taking the lead with Omarsdottir‘s header, which is miraculously saved by the Inter goalkeeper. The number 51 gets her revenge a few minutes later, turning the game around. A lapse in the Inter defense allows the Norwegian striker to capitalize with a delicate touch under Runarsodottir.
Fiorentina is fired up and dominates the second half, coming close to scoring on several occasions. A 3-1 goal at 78′ by Janogy is disallowed by the Football Video Support (FVS). The goal is overturned, and the score remains 2-1 in favor of Fiorentina.
The match at the Viola Park seems to be decided, but in the 91st minute, Inter manages to restore parity with Santi who is ready in the penalty area on a set-piece. The team under Piovani even has the opportunity to secure all three points, but a glaring miss by Wuallert hits the crossbar, ending the match in a 2-2 draw.
Great progress for Fiorentina after the away loss to Napoli. The cup exertions, however, seem to weigh heavily on the Nerazzurri, who maintain an unbeaten record in the league but remain at the bottom of the leading trio.
The usual Giugliano saves the day: Milan overturned in 8 minutes
Milan – Roma 1 – 2
76′ De Sanders (M), 83′ Corelli (R), 90+1′ Giugliano (R)
A heartfelt response from Roma under Rossettini after the heavy defeat in the season opener in the Champions against Real Madrid (6-2). The match is quite blocked, with the visitors making significant changes in anticipation of the crucial home match against Barcelona.
The deadlock is broken by Milan from a corner kick. A corner from the right to the near post, intercepted by Viens to clear, but the ball falls just inside the box to De Sanders who produces a volley on the far post that is unreachable for both Baldi and Corelli, stationed at the far post.
The yellow and red response doesn’t take long, with Giugliano finding the equalizer from the corner flag to meet a lone Corelli who perfectly redirects the ball into the net. Roma believes in themselves and courageously tries to secure three crucial points. Greggi wastes a clear chance for 1-2 at the 88th minute, but Manuela Giugliano once again shines at 91′. A long pass forward to Corelli, who returns the favor from a few minutes earlier to her captain, who, on the right wing, punishes the Rossoneri defense with a precise finish, finding the winning corner.
Leading the championship after two matchdays, despite many changes in the squad and on the bench during the summer. Milan, who celebrated a last-minute victory a week ago, suffers another defeat in the final minutes.
Goals and excitement between Ternana and Napoli: the Naples team comes out on top
Ternana – Napoli 3 – 4
3′ Pastrenge (T), 19′ Nielsen (N), 44′ Muth (N), 45+3′ Brooks (N), 53′ Kozak (N), 64′ Pirone (T), 90+4′ Massimino (T)
