His statements come at a time when voices from Italy are increasing about a possible return to Serie A: Juventus and Milan have indeed set their sights on his situation, ready to evaluate a possible move if opportunities arise.
Future still to be defined for Tonali
Despite the player’s words, Newcastle considers Tonali a cornerstone of Eddie Howe’s project. Acquired from Milan in the summer of 2023 for around 60 million pounds, the 25-year-old has renewed until 2028, with an option for another year, during a 10-month ban for gambling. The club stood by him during that difficult time, and the player has never hidden his gratitude.
Returning to the field in August 2024, Tonali has returned to the spotlight, contributing to the Carabao Cup triumph and Newcastle’s European campaign. However, his connection to Italy remains strong: “My country is my home, and a return to Serie A can never be ruled out,” he recently admitted.
His words have put the spotlight on the future, with the English management ready to secure him but aware that the player’s ambitions could weigh more than any contract. To convince him to stay, Newcastle will need not only renewals and promises, but also victories and consistency at the highest levels.
