The first half of Mainz-Fiorentina saw the Viola, led today by Daniele Galloppa, a team particularly focused on offense.
Despite a slightly slow start for Fiorentina, Simon Sohm put his team ahead at 16’.
The goal came from a construction error by Mainz. Nicolussi plays a vertical pass to Piccoli who immediately sets up Sohm.
The Swiss player finds a powerful shot on the near post, from close range where Zentner can do little.
From this moment on, the Tuscan team found the necessary courage to face the game.
6 minutes after the goal, another great opportunity arrived, this time for Piccoli. Fortini cuts inside and wins a penalty on the move for Piccoli.
The Italian forward wastes the chance, with the opposing goalkeeper deflecting it with his feet into a corner kick.
On the corner kick, Ranieri heads the ball, but Zentner is alert and does not allow the gap to widen.
39’, another chance for the Viola. Great combination play between Dodô, Sohm, and Fazzini, with the latter taking a shot, but Potulski blocks the attempt by the Italian midfielder.

The second half of Mainz-Fiorentina
Ready, set, go! Right at 54’, Piccoli had a great opportunity to double the lead.
Great vertical pass by Sohm, inside the box the forward closes at too much of an angle. The ball goes wide.
Mainz gradually gaining momentum, albeit timidly from the 60’ onwards. This, however, has very positive effects for the German club, as they scored at 68’.
Hollerbach unlocks himself and takes advantage of a ball lost on the edge of the Fiorentina box. Lee recovers the ball and serves, even with a deflection off Pongračić, the German forward.
One-on-one with Martinelli who, calmly, manages to score. The game is back to a tie in Germany.
Great chance for Kean at 77’, who on a cross from Dodô in the box, completely unmarked, misses the target.
Fiorentina finds the equalizing goal at 82’. A pinpoint pass by Nicolussi to the forward who controls on the run and beats Zentner with a precise and powerful diagonal shot, but in an offside position.
The goal is disallowed for the Tuscan side. Punished even more by fate in the final minutes. A goal at 90+5’ for Mainz and the game is turned around.
Sano cuts in from the right onto his left foot and sends in a venomous cross, which is met by the third time of Lee catching Martinelli off guard. The Viola defense lost their way in the end.
It ends in an extremely bitter defeat for the Viola. 2-1.

The final day of Group J will see Belgium take on Liechtenstein, in what is a real bottom-of-the-table clash.
The curtain falls on Group J of the European qualifiers for next year’s World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
The solitary group leader, but not yet sure of the World Cup spot, will face a team that has not yet earned a point.
The Red Devils, in fact, top the standings with 15 points, compared to the 13 of the chasing pack, namely Wales and North Macedonia.
A very different situation for the visitors, who are last and out of contention for a long time.
Belgium’s Lineup
Belgium is missing the final step to secure a spot in the upcoming North American World Cup.
The team coached by Rudi Garcia, if they win, will not have to worry about the results of the chasing teams and can enter the club of qualifiers.
The former Roma coach will deploy the 4-2-3-1 formation, a trademark of his tenure as coach of the Red Devils.
In goal will be Sels, protected in defense by the quartet of Meunier, Faes, Debast, and De Cuyper.
In midfield, a duo of Tielemans and Onana, with Trossard, De Ketelaere, and Doku supporting the lone striker Lukebakio.
Liechtenstein’s Lineup
Zero points in seven games played so far for Liechtenstein under coach Funfstuck.
Given the situation, it is expected that the match in Liege will be only an experimental game, with no ambition for a classic result.
The negative streak so far, indeed, does not allow any hope for achieving an objective.
In the starting eleven, Buchel will guard the goal, protected by Traber, Malin, and Hofer.
In midfield, there will be Kindle, Luchinger, Hasler, Sele, and Goppel, while up front the duo Saglam-Luque Notaro.
Possible Lineups
Belgium (4-2-3-1): Sels; Meunier, Faes, Debast, de Cuyper; Tielemans, Onana; Trossard, De Ketelaere, Doku; Lukebakio. Coach: Rudi Garcia
Liechtenstein (3-5-2): Buchel; Traber, Malin, Hofer; Kindle, Luchinger, Hasler, Sele, Goppel; Saglam, Luque-Notaro. Coach: Funfstuck
Where to Watch
The match between Belgium and Liechtenstein, scheduled this evening at 8:45 PM, will be broadcast on Sky Sport and on the UEFA TV website.
