The coach has signed a contract until June 30, 2027 and this afternoon, at 3:00 PM, at the Petroio Sports Center, he will lead his first training session with the azzurri.
Here is the official statement from the club:
Empoli Football Club is pleased to announce that the technical guidance of the first team has been entrusted to Alessio Dionisi.
The coach has signed a contract until June 30, 2027 and this afternoon at 3:00 PM at the Petroio Sports Center, he will lead the first training session.
In addition to coach Dionisi, the technical staff of the azzurri’s first team will also include Luca Vigiani as assistant coach, Paolo Cozzi as technical collaborator, and Fabio Spighi as fitness coach.
Born in Abbadia San Salvatore (Siena) on April 1, 1980, Alessio Dionisi began his coaching career in 2014, leading Olginatese. He later managed Borgosesia and Fiorenzuola. In the summer of 2018, he joined Imolese in Serie C, where he achieved third place in the league and reached the playoff semifinals. The following season, he led Venezia in Serie B, finishing in eleventh place. In 2020, he arrived at Empoli, guiding the azzurri to promotion to Serie A by winning the championship two rounds before the end of the regular season. At the end of that season, Dionisi was awarded the Silver Bench as the best coach in the second division. In the following two seasons, he coached Sassuolo in Serie A, achieving eleventh and thirteenth place finishes. Last season, he coached Palermo in Serie B.

35,000 spectators at the Barbera Stadium – Football vibes

Yesterday, Palermo drew 1-1 against Modena, but the crowd at the Barbera stadium was incredible: 35,000 spectators, reminiscent of the Serie A era.
Yesterday afternoon, Palermo drew 1-1 against Modena, failing to overtake the Emilian team in the standings. However, what is truly astonishing is the size of the crowd: a whopping 35,000 spectators at the Barbera stadium, a sight not seen since the early days in Serie A under Zamparini’s presidency.
Palermo, yesterday against Modena, record crowd at the Barbera Stadium: 35,000 attendees, reminiscent of the Serie A era under Zamparini
Yesterday, Palermo was held to a 1-1 draw against Modena, with the Rosanero taking the lead through Segre but being equalized by Modena with an own goal by Bereszynski. However, what stood out yesterday was the crowd, resembling a Serie A match: a total of 35,000 spectators packed the Barbera stadium, a sight not seen in almost 20 years, since Zamparini’s presidency in Serie A.
That year, especially in big matches against Juventus, Milan, or Inter, it was common for every seat at the Viale del Fante stadium to be filled, as the season ticket campaign was record-breaking, with only a portion of seats reserved for single tickets. There was a real hunger for football after years of failures, missed opportunities, and relegation bordering on disgrace, with the then-Favorita stadium suffering (such as the 47 paying spectators against Chievo in 1997).
Now, as then, there is a strong desire for football and a longing to return to Serie A. The call made by Inzaghi has been embraced by the fans, especially in yesterday’s match, which was the first high-profile game of the season. While the Rosanero fans hoped for a win, a draw is enough to strive for a place at the top of the table, aiming for promotion. It is hoped that the Barbera stadium will witness similar crowds in the future, making the Zamparini-Guidolin era not seem so distant.
