After the 1-1 draw against Cremonese on Saturday night, the Dea is preparing to face Milan at home tomorrow night for the midweek Serie A round. The hosts are in seventh place in the standings and are coming off four consecutive draws in the league against Juventus, Como, Lazio, and Cremonese. On the eve of the match, Ivan Juric spoke at a press conference at the Centro Bortolotti di Zingonia. Below are his statements.

“Kolasinac is improving, I am happy with his progress, but he is not ready to play yet. For Scamacca, patience is needed: I would like to start him from the beginning, but we have to take it step by step and manage the timing carefully.”

“Only the goal is missing for Lookman. I see him very much part of the team, always available and with a great spirit of sacrifice. In the last three or four games, we created a lot, but we lacked effectiveness in front of goal. It’s something we need to improve on immediately.”

De Roon as a defensive wildcard.

“It’s not a surprise, he has the qualities to play as a center-back. Against Cremonese, he had to follow the midfielder, and he did it well. He is a player who always gives me balance.”

Unbeaten streak and prospects.

“I see an Atalanta team that has produced a lot but has not reaped what it deserves. We need to analyze with clarity: there have been injuries that have affected us, but the group has quality. I think of Krstovic, for example, who is growing a lot: he touches more balls, participates more in the play. It’s a sign that the work is paying off.”

Mentality above all.

“The most important thing is not to lose confidence. The unbeaten streak is a fact that gives solidity, but it should not become a limit. It takes courage to take risks and dare: this is what has made Atalanta great in recent years.”

Milan and the recipe for restarting.

“It’s a great team, built to win. We will have to contain them with attention and clarity, but without giving up our game. This team only lacks goals, everything else is there.”

Nothing new, considering that the head coach is progressively visiting the training centers of Serie A teams, with the aim of getting a clearer idea about the players and, perhaps, making changes to the list of call-ups destined to try to secure the presence of the Azzurri at the upcoming World Cup. In this perspective, let’s try to understand who could be the players potentially eligible for the upcoming National team matches: first on Thursday, November 13 against Moldova, and then on Sunday, November 16 for the big match Italy-Norway, scheduled at 8:45 PM at San Siro Stadium in Milan.

Sassuolo-Roma: the special observers

The possible eligibles include three Roma players and only one Sassuolo player.

In order, the first name on the list could be that of Lorenzo Pellegrini, who after finding space in the Giallorossi squad again, after a troubled last season, could now try again to secure the Azzurri jersey.

Another name in view of the upcoming call-ups is Pisilli, who until the last match in the Europa League — that of the defeat against the Czechs of Viktoria Plzeň — had often remained on the bench observing his teammates. A partial change was seen on Thursday night, when just after entering, the young Giallorossi midfielder had temporarily equalized for his team, only to have the goal disallowed for offside.

Last, but still deserving of a mention, is Tommaso Baldanzi, who remained in Rome despite persistent rumors that had him close to joining Hellas Verona. Despite finding less playing time than Pisilli on the field, Baldanzi could still represent an interesting option for the National team, bringing an additional solution to Gattuso’s tactics, not yet present among the CT’s choices.

Finally, we cannot fail to mention Domenico Berardi, who disappeared prematurely from the National team radar after his last call-up in November 2023. Mainly due to the subsequent period, with two seasons spent with a team in significant difficulties and then in Serie B, which inevitably impacted his visibility in the eyes of the CT.
