The Olimpico ignites for Roma-Udinese, the match that brings Nicolò Zaniolo back to his former home. Amidst protests from the Giallorossi fans.
It is increasingly repeated lately: there are no easy matches. And certainly, this Roma-Udinese is no exception. Not only for the presence of a Zaniolo in great form – and free from the thoughts of the National Team – but more generally for a team that, in the last 5 matches, has only lost to Juventus, overpowering Atalanta on November 1st.
However, in this match, Roma managed to take the lead in the first half, thanks to a goal from a set-piece: a cleverly taken penalty by Lorenzo Pellegrini. Followed by another goal, from a completely unexpected player. While Zaniolo leaves the field without scoring the much-feared former player’s goal.
The standings after part of this eleventh matchday smile at Roma, who can take advantage of the numerous draws recorded by its main potential title contenders (Napoli, and also Juventus. Inter is too early to tell).
There were 61,684 spectators at this match.
Roma-Udinese, first half
The match opens with the predictable boos from the Giallorossi fans towards Zaniolo, designated to kick off.
Kabasele goes down after less than a minute from the kick-off. The first half of the first half passes without much excitement, with a lot of effort from both teams.
The first real chance for Roma materializes in the 13th minute, with Koné inches away from a goal and Okoye collecting a dangerous ball.
Kabasele does well to contain Dovbyk, while some threat comes from the defense. At the 21st minute, Celik tries to score but ends up outside to the left of the goal. And he looks better than the blunder he made against Rangers in the Europa League.
At the 26th minute, Atta comes close to making it 1-0, but fortunately for Svilar, the ball’s trajectory is too diagonal and goes out to the left of the near post. At the 30th minute, the stadium murmurs at the missed shot by Cristante, hitting the opponent’s post and wasting a golden opportunity, unintentionally served by Dovbyk.
At the 36th minute, a glimmer of light, with Dovbyk managing to break free from the opponent and shoot very well, but intercepting the goalkeeper’s hands. Then he gets injured. But his final act includes a check for a possible handball by Kamara. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian striker leaves the field and prepares for the entrance of Tommaso Baldanzi, who goes to play right in front of the goal.
The Olimpico cheers when Collu, the referee, after the check, awards the penalty to Roma: Pellegrini takes it, and doesn’t miss. For the Giallorossi captain, the emotion of being acclaimed by his people is great once again.
Roma-Udinese, second half
Substitution for the Friulians: Kabasele goes out and Palma comes in. At the 55th minute, Roma earns a corner, and Pellegrini takes it again, too fancy. The fans encourage their team, while at the 62nd minute, suddenly, Celik brings a new light to the Curva Sud with a beautiful goal: the Olimpico applauds him, after having devalued him so much in the past. This 2-0 shows the great growth of the Turkish defender in recent years, from “poor” to almost an immovable starter in Gasperini’s defensive line.
Udinese in difficulty and Runjak replaces Karlstrom with Piotrowski, also Buksa goes out and Davis comes in. Shortly after, an error by N’Dicka hands a dangerous ball to Zaniolo, but Svilar saves the situation by opposing his whole body.
Pellegrini exits to thunderous applause from the fans, replaced by El Aynaoui. Soulé also exits, while the Pharaoh El Shaarawy comes in.
At the 78th minute, the combination between Baldanzi and Cristante leads to a shot too high from the latter. Shortly after, El Shaarawy also joins the duo, concluding into the hands of Okoye.
Runjaic tries another change: Kamara out, Zemura in, Zaniolo out – amidst deafening boos – and Bayo in. In the final minutes, Gasperini substitutes Celik and Wesley with Ziolkowski and Ghilardi.
The added time is 4 minutes, but the essentials remain unchanged: Roma secures three points and returns to the top of the standings. At least until the outcome of the Nerazzurri match is known.

Serie A: Three Decisive Matches in the 12th Round
The 12th round of Serie A offers three very important matches: on Saturday there will be Fiorentina-Juventus and Napoli-Atalanta, on Sunday the Inter-Milan derby.
Juventus aims to continue its growth and demonstrate that it can become competitive again, and it can do so on the field against Fiorentina.
However, Fiorentina always plays with great intensity at home and wants to take advantage of the opportunity to stop Juventus and earn valuable points.
Napoli faces Atalanta in a match that could say a lot about the ambitions of both teams. The Neapolitans seek confirmation after a fluctuating period and know that a victory can put them back in the running for the top spot.
Atalanta arrives with the desire to react, and this match could be a turning point: if they play without fear, they can create many difficulties for Napoli, but another misstep could complicate their season.
The derby between Inter and Milan is the central match of the day. Inter wants to confirm its strength and use the game to extend its lead over other contenders. Milan, on the other hand, sees the derby as an opportunity to change pace, regroup, and relaunch its ambitions.
In a match like this, motivation is as important as quality. A victory in the derby can completely change the week and the mood of a team.
These three matches of the 12th round of Serie A will be very important to understand the state of the teams. Juventus must play well to come back stronger. Napoli must win to stay among the top teams. The Inter-Milan derby will be decisive: the winner gains confidence, the loser gets discouraged. In general, it will be a day of exciting matches where anything can happen.

Juventus, Vlahović doubtful for Florence: Is it David’s time?

In Florence, Spalletti’s Juventus seeks answers after two consecutive draws. With Vlahović still in doubt, it could be David’s turn against Fiorentina.
With almost all international commitments completed, it is now time to focus on the resumption of the league, which will see Juventus facing a challenging match in Florence on Saturday. Spalletti’s team is searching for answers after the last two consecutive draws against Sporting Lisbon and Torino, results that have raised some questions after the victories against Udinese and Cremonese.
The Tuscan coach may also have to do without one of the players who have become central to his project: Dusan Vlahović. The Serbian striker has been a starter in all three matches under Spalletti’s management, but the injury suffered while on international duty, fortunately revealed to be just fatigue, could still force him to miss the match against his former team.

Juventus, opportunity for David in Florence?
If Vlahović is unable to play, Spalletti has several options. At the forefront are Openda and especially Jonathan David, who has not yet shown what Juventus and the fans expected from him. A significant improvement is expected from the Canadian striker, and the hope is that under Spalletti he can regain confidence, consistency, and goals.
Who knows, perhaps his rebirth could start from the match in Florence, a game that Juventus must absolutely try to win to stay close to the top of the table. Evaluations will continue on Vlahović’s condition, but one thing is certain: Juventus will need the best version of their attackers to get back on track.
