Empoli coach D’Aversa talks about the excellent season so far and the dedication of his players: “Everyone is focused on the common good”.
The Empoli is one of the biggest surprises of this Serie A season. A team that in the summer had lost important players like Caprile, Luperto, Bastoni, Cambiaghi, Marin, Maldini, Niang, and Piccoli, but is now fighting for a comfortable safety. The Tuscan team has so far offered excellent performances against all the teams it has faced and for this reason, it currently has the second best defense.
Cronache di Spogliatoio interviewed the main architect of this great start to the season, Roberto D’Aversa, who spoke about the excellent progress so far and some of his players in particular.
D’Aversa on Empoli’s season
“We are satisfied with the journey we have made so far. We have worked hard, we have exceeded expectations. The result is only the consequence of how we are training. We never lower the level of attention and humility. Everyone in the squad has their own goal, but everyone is focused on the common good. It’s a group where young players are as important as the older ones.”
Confidence in Pietro Pellegri and Vasquez’s surprising start
D’Aversa later expressed his positive thoughts on his striker:
“Pellegri is doing well now. We know the physical problems he has gone through, mentally it’s not easy to overcome. He has made himself available with surprising humility. I don’t listen to the labels that come with a player, I don’t hear the prejudices: I only know that Pellegri arrives at the field first and stays even after the training is over.”
He then analyzed with amazement the start of the goalkeeper brought to Italy by the duo Maldini-Massara, who had the difficult task of not making Caprile regret:
“The director was very clever. Last year he had played only 7 games with Ascoli in Serie B and had been relegated to C. I don’t know how many would have had the foresight to entrust him with the goal of a Serie A team. He surprised me too: but as I always say, reaching A is difficult, but confirming yourself is the real challenge. Vasquez has all the means to do it.”

Advice for Fazzini
Finally, he wanted to highlight the strengths of his number 10 and said what he needs to improve:
“I found a collaborative guy, I had a thought about him but I didn’t think he was so strong and determined. He needs to toughen up because he is used to influencing, he really likes to set up his teammates but he needs to toughen up. Fazzini is physically a top player: fast and resilient, it’s really rare for players in his position and with his technique. He needs to be more ‘mean’.”

Milan, Modric: “A big shame, we threw away 2 points”

AC Milan midfielder Luka Modric commented on the bitter 2-2 draw against Pisa in a press conference.

Milan, Modric’s words
MILAN-PISA 2-2
“We expected this match, they came to defend and make our lives difficult. It’s our fault if we didn’t win: we didn’t do enough to win the game. We lost two important points today. These home games, with all due respect to Pisa, you have to win them.”
TIGHT MARKING?
“It’s fair, I have to adapt. We need to play better overall: we did some good things, created many chances but didn’t score. But I have to adapt for the rest.”
APPROACH
“We should have killed the game in the first half. We played well, but only scored one goal. We started the second half sluggishly, then there was the unfortunate penalty and goal. But that’s football, that’s why it’s beautiful: even if you’re stronger and deserve to win, anything can happen. We are sad and angry for losing two valuable points.”

We made mistakes, we need to reflect. However, Pisa played their game

AC Milan waste a great opportunity to consolidate their lead: from 1-0 to 1-2, they need the final minutes to avoid a sensational defeat. The risk of losing the top spot for Milan is now concrete.
It was supposed to be a quiet evening for the Rossoneri, an opportunity to strengthen their first place in the standings and face the midweek round with serenity. Instead, against a brave Pisa, the Rossoneri complicate their lives and have to thank Athekame, the author of the 2-2 in injury time, for avoiding an embarrassing loss.
AC Milan-Pisa 2-2: match analysis
The match started off on the right foot thanks to Leao’s goal after just seven minutes. But Allegri’s team, instead of closing the game, relaxed, showing presumption and lacking ruthlessness in front of goal. In the first half, Milan controlled but did not score, and Pisa stayed in the game.

In the second half, Gilardino played his trump card: Cuadrado’s entry changed everything. The Colombian won and scored the penalty for 1-1, his eighth goal in career against the Rossoneri, then inspired the counterattack that led Nzola to the sensational 2-1. Milan, confused and lacking clarity, tried to react, with Leao hitting the crossbar, Nkunku wasting a possible lead.
Only in injury time did the equalizer come, signed by Athekame, avoiding a heavy defeat but not erasing the bitterness. Perhaps the Rossoneri paid for their lack of respect for the opponent, just as Allegri had warned before the start of the match.
A necessary reality check, because on Tuesday in Bergamo Milan risks not showing up as the league leaders.

Crazy night at San Siro: Pisa almost pulls off the upset, Rossoneri saved in stoppage time
