Thursday’s Europa League brought joy in the end for Lazio and Roma. Both teams overcame their opponents 2-1 and moved closer to the quarter-finals.
The Cesarini zone smiled on both Ranieri and Baroni with Shomurodov and Isaksen as protagonists, and now the chances of qualification have significantly increased.
Lazio, the feat of the 9 in the sign of Isaksen
The biancocelesti return from the Czech Republic with high morale thanks to the Danish goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time. The match was characterized by two red cards, first for Rovella and then for Gigot, which risked condemning Lazio to their second defeat in this Europa League.
In the first half, the Czechs even took the lead with Sulc but the VAR disallowed the goal for offside. A few minutes later, Alessio Romagnoli put his team ahead with a header from a predatory position at the far post. However, in the second half, Viktoria Plzen reacted vigorously and even found the equalizer through Durosinmi in the 53rd minute.
The continuous attacks of the home team were neutralized by Provedel, who significantly helped the defense hold on until the end. The two red cards complicated the final minutes a lot, but Isaksen’s curling left-footed shot that nestled in at the far post brought joy to the entire bench and the fans who had come from Rome.
Next week at the Olimpico, the atmosphere will be intense as the goal difference is only 1, but the advantage situation could push the team to close the qualification early in the first few minutes.

Roma, Shomurodov the light of hope: makes the Olimpico explode all in yellow and red
The Uzbek gave all Roma fans an unforgettable evening with a goal in full recovery that overturned Athletic Bilbao. In an Olimpico stadium colored all in yellow and red thanks to the appeal of the Curva Sud, which expressly invited each fan to get a flag composed of the two social colors that have made the history of Roma.
From the warm-up onwards, a festive and loving atmosphere welcomed the players, who were able to absorb the energy transmitted by the environment and then pour all their energies into the game. Despite a rather disappointing first half, with only a flash from Dybala hitting the crossbar, the second half provided a roller coaster of emotions.
Inaki Williams’ goal had brought some dismay among the supporters, but the atmosphere remained unchanged, with the team reacting immediately and finding the equalizer with Angelino (his 4th goal of the season) thanks to a right-footed shot from the center of the area that hit the post before finding the net behind Unai Simon.
Roma tried in every way to take the lead without suffering much from Athletic’s comeback, who were also reduced to 10 men due to Alvarez’s red card for a second yellow. The finale was all in yellow and red, with the efforts culminating in Shomurodov’s left-footed turn that literally made the Olimpico stadium explode with joy.
Next week at San Mames, the atmosphere will be very similar given the traditional warmth of the Basque fans, so concentration will be needed to not lose focus and jeopardize qualification.

Steaua Bucharest-Bologna 1-2, first win for the red and blue team in Europe: decisive goals from Odgaard and Dallinga
In the 3rd match of the Europa League group stage, Steaua Bucharest-Bologna ends 1-2, with Odgaard and Dallinga’s goals securing the first win for the red and blue team in Europe, a victory dedicated to their coach Vincenzo Italiano, who was not on the bench tonight. A Bologna team that is back on track for qualification, with an impressive performance.
The red and blue team start strong, showing initiative in the Romanian area, and in the 9th minute they take the lead: on an action by Freuler, Dallinga sets up Odgaard who puts the ball into the net for 1-0 to Bologna. Three minutes later, the red and blue team double their lead: taking advantage of a mistake in the Steaua defense, Dallinga scores with a powerful shot, making it 2-0 and practically sealing the game. In the 33rd minute, a goal by Orsolini for 3-0 is disallowed for offside. Bologna dominates the game, but Steaua Bucharest comes close to scoring twice, only to be denied by Skorupski on both occasions. The first half ends 2-0 in favor of Bologna.
The second half starts with Bologna posing a threat with Orsolini and Lykogiannis, but Steaua Bucharest pulls one back: on a Romanian attack, Vitik heads the ball to clear the area, allowing Birligea to beat Lucumì and Skorupski to make it 2-1, reopening the game. However, Bologna remains composed, coming close to a third goal with Dallinga, but the Romanian goalkeeper is up to the task. The end sees Bologna close to scoring a third goal, first with Orsolini, then Odgaard, and finally Orsolini hitting the post. After 5 minutes of stoppage time, the referee blows the final whistle to confirm the victory for Bologna.
The standout player without a doubt is Dallinga, truly unstoppable tonight, but it’s the entire Bologna team that has really clicked, looking like the team that made history for the club last year, as they did tonight in Bucharest.

Fiorentina coach Pioli spoke at a press conference on the eve of the second match of the Conference League group stage tomorrow evening against Rapid Vienna.
Stefano Pioli met with the press ahead of the challenge against Rapid Vienna, here are his responses to the questions from the journalists present.
Is the Conference League an opportunity to change the trend of the league as well?
The league is a different story, the Conference is another tournament, we need to earn points. Then from Sunday, there will be other matches…
What aspect are you finding most challenging?
In the last few matches, we have played on par with teams of excellent level, we need to play more as a team at certain moments. We need to support each other more. What is said outside of our group is good for us, it brings us closer together.
Was there a meeting with some player representatives?
To deny it means it didn’t happen… If a player talks to the coach, is it possible for him to reject it? It’s falsehoods. We are united. But what do we need and want? Results and we are working to give satisfaction to the fans and the club.
Have you seen signs of improvement in the last few games: what are they?
I believe that compared to the first games, we have been more attentive, more compact: we need to attack more, be more dangerous, we need to fill the opponent’s area.
You have a rather complicated group: do you agree?
We want to go all the way, but it is clear that we have a tough group, we have taken the best from each tier…
What’s going on with Gudmundsson?
I have a lot of confidence in this player, I see him better: he is a player who will give us a big hand, I’m sure of it.
The Florentine environment is in turmoil… do you hear the criticism against you?
The moment is particular, the criticisms against me do not take away my serenity, my clarity in work, I always put more dedication. I believe it is correct to judge only the performances and not what may be around. Every time we lose, it is said that the locker room is divided but we need to work, focus and I believe in my players.
There will be several close games, are you thinking of some rotations?
Tomorrow I will make more changes than usual, we have three very close commitments. But I am convinced that whoever takes the field is ready to play a good game.
Has anything changed with Sohm after a period where he didn’t convince?
Sohm is doing better, he has regained good condition: I think he will play tomorrow, I don’t know if from the start or as a substitute.
Goalkeeper choice: De Gea or Martinelli tomorrow?
De Gea will play tomorrow, as I think Comuzzo could play. Fagioli did well in Milan.
