Sampdoria, incredible: after Saturday’s confirmation, Semplici could be dismissed today
What is happening at Sampdoria in these hours is unbelievable: coach Leonardo Semplici, initially confirmed on the blucerchiata bench despite the defeat against Frosinone on Saturday at Marassi, could be dismissed today. Therefore, there is total confusion at blucerchiata, with some wanting the current coach confirmed and others in favor of his dismissal, but let’s proceed in order.
In the post-match press conference on Saturday, sports director Pietro Accardi told the press that Semplici would remain in his position, despite the defeat and 17th place, which could mean the first relegation to Serie C in the club’s history, considering that he was not the sole responsible for the situation.
Then, yesterday the situation changed drastically: with president Manfredi holding several summits in Bogliasco with Accardi, Semplici, and the team, Sunday’s training session was canceled and today the team will not train to clarify the situation.
Finally, a briefing among the various blucerchiata executives, with Manfredi staying in Genoa and not returning to Milan as usual. The blucerchiata number one wanted to speak with the most representative players of the team, who seem inclined towards the dismissal of their coach. But the decision will be made by today, as the match against Spezia is looming and training needs to resume.
Who could be the replacement for Semplici if dismissed? The first name would be that of Andrea Pirlo, who could return to the blucerchiata bench despite Accardi‘s opposition. Then there are the names of Iachini, Andreazzoli, and Donati, but the former blucerchiata coach could really be the replacement, as Manfredi received a suggestion from none other than Roberto Mancini, who certainly, as a former blucerchiata legend, does not smile at the sad present that his former team is currently going through. We will see what happens.

Andrea Sottil revives Modena: first place, best attack and best defense in Serie B. The team dreams big after the draw with Palermo.
The most anticipated match of the eighth round of Serie B was undoubtedly between Palermo and Modena, the top two teams in the league. In the end, it did not disappoint: many chances on both sides, great intensity, and a 1-1 final score that definitely favors the canaries. With this result, in fact, Sottil’s team remains in first place, with a two-point lead over the rosanero.
However, Modena may have deserved something more, considering their performance. No matter, though, because Sottil himself spoke of an “extraordinary performance” from his players after the game, emphasizing how a result like this can only boost confidence for the upcoming matches.
After all, it’s not easy for everyone to play with such personality at the home of the team considered by many as the main favorite for promotion.
Modena, promotion target
The credit for this season’s start goes largely to Andrea Sottil, chosen in the summer to lead a completely revamped team. After a very eventful transfer window, with the sale of Palumbo to the rosanero, the third most lucrative in the history of the yellow and blue, and the farewells of veterans like Gagno, Zaro, and Duca, the management focused on experienced players like Zampano, Chichizola, Adorni, and Di Mariano, but also on promising young talents like Zanimacchia, Sersanti, and Pyyhtiä.
Sottil, coming off challenging experiences at Udinese and Sampdoria, with a brief stint at Salernitana, managed to unify the group and give a clear identity to the team. Today, Modena has the best attack and defense in the league, and above all, a newfound awareness.
It’s only the eighth round, but the feeling is clear: with Sottil, Serie A is no longer a dream but a concrete goal.
