Bayer Leverkusen is working to identify the replacement for Florian Wirtz, a promised groom of Liverpool. The new coach of the Aspirin Ten Hag is pushing for one of his old favorites.
The Bayer Leverkusen is ready to start a new era. After the departures of coach Xabi Alonso, who joined Real Madrid, and Jeremie Frimpong, who moved to Liverpool, the jewel Florian Wirtz could soon leave the Aspirin as well. Like the Dutch winger, he also seems destined to play for the Reds next season. The negotiation between Leverkusen and the English club has been ongoing for weeks, and the deal could soon be finalized.
The German club, after signing goalkeeper Flekken, is working with new coach Erik Ten Hag to identify possible replacements for the rossonero number 10, honored as the best player in the Bundesliga. According to Sky Sport Deutschland, the number 1 target identified by the Dutch coach to replace Wirtz is Brazilian winger Antony. After a successful 6-month loan spell at Real Betis, the 2000 class winger is set to return to Manchester United. However, Antony is not part of coach Amorim‘s plans and is expected to leave Manchester on a permanent basis in the summer.
Bayer Leverkusen, no contact with Manchester United for Antony

Florian Plettenberg, a German market expert, explains that there have been no contacts between Bayer Leverkusen and Manchester United for Antony at the moment. The Aspirin want to first finalize Wirtz’s departure before determining who could be his successor. It should be noted that Antony’s desire is to continue his adventure with Real Betis. In just 6 months, the Brazilian has become a fan favorite among Andalusian supporters, impressed by his performances. The high salary of the player is currently hindering the success of the negotiation.
Despite Antony’s preference, Leverkusen could play the Erik Ten Hag card. The Dutch coach developed him at Ajax and strongly wanted him when he was in charge of the Red Devils. Ajax received 100 million euros from his transfer in 2022. In the coming weeks, there could be a scenario in which Antony decides to follow his mentor in his new adventure in Germany.
