Chelsea, Maresca’s Words
“I have no words to describe my players. They all deserve this victory, it’s a beautiful moment.”
“For me, we won the game in the first ten minutes. We set the pace and were very good in pressing. The conditions were not easy to maintain the intensity, but the boys did a great job.”
“PSG is probably the strongest team in the world, with an extraordinary coach. But we came here to win, not just to participate. A year ago, no one was talking about us. Now everyone is talking about our football.”
Cole Palmer, who scored twice, was named the tournament’s best player. “Today we found a position where he had more space to attack. Obviously, Cole played very well, but the commitment of all the players was fantastic.”
Joao Pedro: “This is football, everyone wants to win”
After the final whistle, a brawl broke out on the field, involving Joao Pedro as well: “Everyone wants to win, in the end, they lost their heads. But this is football. Now we have to enjoy this victory. This is football”. The Brazilian, who arrived from Brighton, has already integrated well with the team, scoring three goals between the semifinal and final.
Cole Palmer: “I like finals, I exploited the spaces”
Cole Palmer, the standout player in the final, said: “I exploited the spaces they left me and tried to make that play, in the end, I scored two goals. We are experiencing great feelings, we knew it was a very difficult match. We were playing against a great team, I really like finals.” The striker also praised coach Maresca: “He has taught us a lot, we are a very young team and now we are doing great.”
